You might think you're intimately familiar with all of the ships in the Star Wars universe, but once you find yourself in the cockpit of a Star Wars: Squadrons X-Wing you'll likely realize you're a little bit out of your league. Fortunately, learning to be an ace pilot doesn't require you to be a master of the Force — you just need to learn a few Star Wars Squadrons tips and tricks on how to control y𒁏our ship like it's second nature.
Star Wars: Squadrons Tips And Tricks
The basics of piloting are explained to you when you first hop in your ship — however, there's a lot of nuance and specifics that are not as clearly 𓃲taught, or could have gone over your head with so much inform💫ation coming at you at once. Here are some of the fundamental basics you might have missed.
Piloting Terms
You're a pilot now, and learning the lingo is going to make everything far easier to understand. It might sound a little complex, but you'𒁃ll come to grips wit🐲h it in no time.
Throttle - The throttle is what you use to control the speed of your ship. 🉐It isn't like a gas pedal, though, where you constantly need to press it forward to continue accelerating. It's more like a gauge. Whatever speed you set the throttle to, that's the speed your ship will maintain.
Roll - Rolling is just like it sounds. It spins your ship on an axis without tu༒rning it.
Pitch - The pitch is how you move the front of your ship up or do🐽♔wn, and thus fly in that direction. Pitch up to move up, or down to go down. This is all relative to the cockpit, so rolling sideways can make pitching up turn to the side instead.
Yaw - Just like pitch, yaw is moving the front of your ship side to side. This i𒀰s another wayꦚ to turn.
Manage Your Power
Your ship only has so much power to go around between engines, weapons, and shields. You are in complete c📖ontrol of how much power goes to what, and you should always be aware of what systems need power and when. When you start a mission these will all have an equal amount of power, but you can maximize engine speed by pressing left on the D-pad, weapons by pressing up, or shields by pressing right.
More engine power will speed up the rate at which your boost meter 🎃builds. Use this when you need to cross long 💜distances to get into the battle.
Prioritizing weapons will, as you'd expect, make them deaไl more damage. When you're in the thick of a dogfight, dump it all into ꦉweapons to take your targets down faster.
Finally shields will proꦕtect you fro🔯m incoming damage. If you're overwhelmed, fleeing, or assaulting a massive target, boosting your defense is the way to go.
Dogfighting Tips
Let's be honest, you came here to experience the thrills of a Star Wars space battle that would put Coruscant to shame. Here are some 🙈quick tips to make you feel like a true fighter pilot.
- Lead your targets. Aiming where your target will be, not where they are, is the only way to land your shots. Wait for your reticle to turn red to know your lasers will land.
- Keep your throttle up. Slowing down for tactical maneuvers and precise targeting is fine, but sitting still is just asking to get blown up. Keep moving at all times.
- Manage your lasers. Your standard ship lasers have a maximum range of 1,000 meters, so don't bother shooting until your target is within that range. At the same time, don't spam your shots because each ship can only fire for a certain duration of time.
