These days, the biggest 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Star Wars villains are angry YouTubers. Zing! Gottem! But across Star Wars’ history, it hasn’t been packed with villains. Even though Darth Vader is the character we most deeply associate with George Lucas’ space western ahead of Luke Skywalker or Han Solo, he’s almost too good, and Star Wars has relied on him too often rather than building up new characters. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like it has the deep bench for Villainous the way Marvel and Disney do (after all, the Sith’s whole thing is there can only be two of them), but I recent𝐆ly tried out the latest expansion pack for Star Wars Villainous, Scum And Villainy, and it’s clear that Star Wars’ great baddies run deeper than just Vader.
The three villains in the expansion are Boba Fett, Cad Bane, and Seventh Sister, and while I call it an expansion, it can be completely played standalone, without the base Star Wars Villainous game. And since I don’t even own that, I can say with confidence it works on its own. Based on my knowledge of the Marvel game, for which I have the original box and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Twisted Ambitions expansion, I ꦅcan see Scum And Villainy sliding in alongsid🎐e the main game nicely.
If you’re only familiar witꦺh Marvel, you’ll be surprised by Star Wars’ multi Fate Deck system where each character gets their own decks of Fate cards. While I do think this helps keep things more focused (Marvel games’ shared cardpools can often have dud cards when the specific villain isn’t in play), it also waters down the possibilities. Star Wars has a wide universe, not a deep one, and as a result some decks feel repetitive.
That’s an unfortunate theme throughout. Underneath the IP, Villainous is just the same game with some minor twists, so we shouldn’t hope for a completely new experience each time. There’s nothing in here as unique as Titania’s rising strength in Marvel’s Twisted Am☂bitions expansion. For instance, Boba completing bounties is very similar to Doc Ock’s aim, only with a little more combat. However, a more positive similarity Boba and Doc Ock share is that they might be my favourite figurines of the lot.
If you only play the Star Wars version and aren’t collecting the entire Villainous series, a similarity to Marvel won’t bother you. There’s also some tricky mechanics here to help it stand out: Star Wars uses both Ambition and Credits to fund its nefarious actions, and that can make tracking each move more coꦍmplicated, which might appeal to players wanting a more involved and thoughtful experience.
Seventh Sister wins by permanently removing three characters from the game (including the welcome arrival of Ahsoka), and does so by paying extra Ambition after defeating the𒅌m normally. However, with two currencies to balance, this can feel like a slightly annoying goal - but again, that probably matters more depending on your experience with other Villainous games. Overall her goal is simple to grasp, which makes her a solid character.
Then there’s Cad Bane, who adds Targets (a third currency) onto his foes. This works in a similar manner to Hela in Marvel, but is far more approachable. When his Allies kill Heroes, a Target is applied to them, and then Cad must draw a specific card in order to collect those Targets. It’s a clever idea, but when Boba Fett is next door collecting꧟ bounties it feels like maybe he’s best suited to that whole idea. Still,Cad offers the best overall experience, especially for newer players.
The biggest downside♐ to Scum And Villainy though is more a question for the future. With representation from The Clone Wars and Rebels here, and Boba not even considered a villain these days, it doesn’t seem like Star Wars Villainous has anywhere to go. I enjoy playing through the Villainous games, but I do wonder if there’s a way to expand that isn’t just ‘more characters’. Once you add more complexities though, that may strip away the charm. Board games are ma♌de to be replayed and Boba being a worse Doc Ock, Cad being a better Hela, and Seventh Sister being ‘fine if a little complicated’ makes for a decent, replayable mix, albeit one that feels uninspired.
Scum And Villainy is a great pack if you’re looking to expand your Villainous collection for the first time, or are only interested in playing the Star Wars branch of the game. If you already have other Villainous games, though, it’s instead only an okay one.It doesn’t think outside of the box, but it has some great pieces in it. With some ni𓃲che and beloved Star Wars characters and three varying ways to play (even if you’ve played versions of them before), Scum And Villainy does enough to make it worth your while, and your Credits. Or wait, do you pay for this one in Ambition?
