Stardew Valley: The Best Fisꦯh For Fish Po𒉰nds
Fishing ponds can be𝕴 very lꦚucrative in Stardew Valley. Here are the best fish you can put in your fish ponds.
But, when gi𒈔ven the choice, it can be a difficult one. Of course, every profession is useful, but some are arguably better than others in general. Read on to see which profession is the better one for the average player, as well as how to use the Statue of Uncertainty to change professions.
Updated March 3, 2024 by Jacqueline Zalace: Choosing the right profession in Stardew Valley can be a difficult choice, and we understand that. As such, we've updated this guide, including the overall best professions at the start of every section, allowing you to quickly see what you should choose.
Farming
Overall Best: Tiller and Artisan
First up, we have Farming. To level up your Farming skill, all you need to do is farm. This involves planting, watering, and harvestin⛦g crops. If you tend to your crops daily, you should level up this skill in no time.
Farming Level 5
Profession |
Bonuses |
Choices at Level 10 |
---|---|---|
Rancher |
Animal Products sell for 20% more gold |
Coopmaster or Shepherd |
Tiller |
Crops sell for 10% more gold |
Artisan or Agriculturist |
In most cases, Tiller will be the superior option. There are two reasons for this. First, animal products should be crafte♛d int꧙o artisan goods, not sold raw. Second, choosing the Tiller profession will unlock the Artisan profession at Level 10, which is far superior to the two options given at Level 10 if you choose Rancher.
Farming Level 10
Level 5 Profession |
Level 10 Choice |
Description |
---|---|---|
Rancher |
Coopmaster |
Coop animals become friendly more quickly The time eggs take to incubate is halved Increases coop animal product quality |
Shepherd |
Barn animals become friendly more quickly Sheep produce wool more quickly Increases barn animal product quality |
|
Tiller |
Artisan |
Artisan goods sell for 40% more gold |
Agriculturist |
Crops grow 10% faster |
If you chose Tiller, as recommended earlier, the far superior choice is Artisan. Given that artisan goods are 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:some of the most profitabl🅷e 💛items in the game, it's much bettꦐer than the crop🐎 growth speed increase given by Agriculturist.
If you did choose Rancher, Shepherd is the better level ten choice, making sheep produce wool faster. This late in the game, you probably won't need the incubation speed bonus of Coopmaster. Which ty🐽pe of a♚nimal you befriend faster also comes down to personal preference.
Mining
Overall Best: Geologist and Gemologist
The Mining professions will ease your time in the mines. The best way to level up this skill is by using your pickaxe to break rocks. When you start a new game, there will probably be tons of rocks on your farm; breaking ♊these will give you🌠 experience toward your mining level.
Mining Level 5
Profession |
Bonuses |
Choices at Level 10 |
---|---|---|
Miner |
+1 ore in every vein |
Blacksmith or Prospector |
Geologist |
Gems occasionall♍y appear in pai💫rs (50% chance per node) |
Gemologist or Excavator |
The better choice here depends on how far into the game you are. In terms of profit, the best choice is Geologist. Gems sell for a lot of gold, while increasing the ore drops by one doesn't make⛦ a huge difference, especially in ꦇthe late-game.
However, in the very-early game, the extra ore goes a long way. So, if you're still in the first Spring or Summer, Miner might be a better choice temporarily. Later in the game, you ca🏅n change your profession, but we will go over that later.
Mining Level 10
Level 5 Profession |
Level 10 Choice |
Description |
---|---|---|
Miner |
Blacksmith |
Metal bars sell for 50% mꦉore gold (Does 🦩not apply to Radioactive Bars or Refined Quartz) |
Prospector |
Your chance of finding Coal is doubled |
|
Geologist |
Gemologist |
Gems and Minerals sell for 30% more gold |
Excavator |
Your chance to find geodes is doubled |
Gemologist is the clear winner here in the long run. Throw some diamonds in some crystalariums and you'll be a millionaire before y🐈ou know it. Excavator's double geode🔯s bonus is nice, but it doesn't compare to the profit of Gemologist.
If you're trying to complete the Museum collection, it might be nice to have Excavator for a bit tem💃p🦋orarily, as it'll help you find the last few missing minerals.
If you did choose Miner profession at level five, the better pick between Blacksmith and Prospector is Prospector. Coal will always be necessary, so a double chance to find it is great. Selling met൩al bars for a higher profit shouldn't be too necessary, because you should mostly be using them for crafting, not selling them.
Foraging
Overall Best: Gatherer and Botanist
Foraging is quite a versatile skill, consi𒁏sting of a lot of activities. To level it up, you can harvest wild plants, as well as chop down trees.
Foraging Level 5
Profession |
Bonuses |
Choices at Level 10 |
---|---|---|
Forester |
You'll obtain 25% more wood when chopping trees, s𝓰tumps, or logs |
Lumberjack or Tapper |
Gatherer |
20% chance of double harvest of forageable items |
Botanist or Tracker |
The better choice is undoubtedly Gatherer, especially when 𝔍paired with the right perk at level ten.
Forester is okay, but daily luck can inc💮rease how much wood you get, too. There's no shortage of wood in Stardew Valley. However, it can be an alright choice in either the early game or any period where you're try🎃ing to build a lot of farm buildings.
In the long-term, Gatherer is better. Plus, the forage bonus of Gatherer applies to those precious, precious s.
Foraging Level 10
Level 5 Profession |
Level 10 Choice |
Description |
---|---|---|
Forester |
Lumberjack |
Hardwood can drop from any tree when chopped |
Tapper |
Syrups sell for 25% more gold |
|
Gatherer |
Botanist |
Foraged items are always the highest possible qual꧋ity |
Tracker |
Shows the location of forageable items, arti๊fact spots, and panning locatꦜions |
We recommend going for Botanist here, as it makes every foraged item the highest quality. This is incredibly overpowered, especially when it comes to picking up Truffles.
Tracker shows the location of forageable items, which is kind of cool but pales in comparison in terms of usefulness. However, it'll also point you in the direction of artifact spots and the location of places where you can pan. If you're trying to complete thౠe Museum collection, the artifact spot trackꦐing might be nice for a bit.
If you chose Forester at level five, choose Lumberjack at level ten. 🌺This makes all tre♛es have the ability to drop that precious hardwood we all need.
Fishing
Overall Best: Fisher and Pirate
Fishing is another simple skill; fish to level it up! You can fish from any body of water, and they are quite plentiful around the valley.
Fishing Level 5

Fisher |

Angler or Pirate |
Trapper |
Reduced in💟gredient cost for crafting Crab Pots (25x wood and 2x Copper Bar, instead of 40x wood and 3x Iron Bar) |
Mariner or Luremaster |
Fisher is the better choice here. The resources to make Crab Pots are not that hard to get ahold of, and Crab Pot captures 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:don't sell for nearlꦫy as much as the average fish caught with 🔯a rod — especially after a 25 per꧙cent sale increase.
If you're in need of some extra Crab Pots, you can use all the extra money you 🔜made from having the Fisher pe🗹rk to just buy the Pots from Willy.
Fishing Level 10
Level 5 Profession |
Level 10 Choice |
Description |
---|---|---|
Fisher |
Angler |
Fish sell for 50% more (Does not stack with Fisher's 25% bonuᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚs) |
Pirate |
🅷You have twice the chance to find treasure ཧwhen fishing |
|
Trapper |
Mariner |
Crab Pots won't produce junk items |
Luremaster |
Crab Pots don't require bait |
At level ten, it's best to choose Pirate. With an increase in the number of treasures you find, this perk can lead you to that sweet, sweet 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Prismatic Shard or 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dinosaur Egg. Angler's sale bonus is definitely nice, but, frankly, it's just not as fun, and that🎀 has to count for something here🐷.
If Trapper was chosen at level five, opt for Luremaster. This makes it so Crab Pots no longer require bait. Mariner, the other option, prevents Crab Pots from producing trash items. Sure, it's nice not to lure in driftwood with your Crab Pots, but not having to use bait at all is far better. If you pul♐l in trash, who cares? You didn't 🐻waste any bait!
Combat
Overall Best: Fighter and Defender
Lastly, we have Combat. Level up this skill by taking to the Mines or other dangerous locations.
Combat Level 5
Profession |
Bonuses |
Choices at Level 10 |
---|---|---|
Fighter |
All attacks deal 10% more damage Additional 15 HP for your max health |
Brute or Defender |
Scout |
50% extra chance to deal critical strikes |
Acrobat or Desperado |
Fighter should be chosen for the HP bump alone. There isn't much you can do to improve your HP in Stardew, so opt for that. You'll also get an attack bonus for every attack, not just the rare critical strikes. It might not work out to more damage mathematically, but it's much m🐭ore stable and reliable.
Combat Level 10
Level 5 Profession |
Level 10 Choice |
Description |
---|---|---|
Fighter |
Brute |
15% increased damage when attacking |
Defender |
+25 HP added to your max health |
|
Scout |
Acrobat |
The cooldown time on special moves is halved |
Desperado |
Doubles the damage dealt by critical strikes |
If you chose Fighter at level, choose Defender at level ten. Again, HP increases are hard to come by, so the bonus🐲 25 HP is great. Brute's 15 percent damage increase is nice, but the best offense is a good defense (or enough stamina), after all.
For Scout, Desperado is the better choice. It'll make it so critical strikes sometimes do much more damage. This🤪 is far superior to Acrobat, which halves the c꧂ooldown on special moves.
The Statue Of Uncertainty
If you're unhappy with a profession choice, never fear. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Statue of Uncertainty can help💛 you change professions. All you need is to have the key to the Sewers and 10,000 gold.
You can unlock the Sewers by obta🔜ining the Rusty Key. G🅘unther gives you this special key after you donate 60 items to the Museum.
To make a change in your professions, just pay the Statue of Uncertainty and select which skill you'd like to swap professions in. Then, that night, you'll be prompted to pick a Level 5 and Level 10 profession again.
This can be done as many times as you like without repercussi💎ons. It's a great way to get a temporary bump in something that you don't need long-term, like switching over to Forester when you need a bunch of wood for a project.
However, you should note that you lose whichever professions you're swapping out the moment you make your selection. This means you won't have them for the rest of the day. Any⭕thing already in the shipping bin that would have received a bonus from a profession that you removed will not receive the bonus.
