A silver tongue can defuse many tricky situations in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Starfield, but sometimes that isn't enough. There are moments where a firefight is inevitable, and that is why most social characters should consider unlocking some of the Social tree's more niche skills.
One of the first specialized Social skills you'll find is Intimidation, a classic skill in RPGs that allows you to coerce your foes into doing something. But unlike most games where this is merely a dialogue option, Intimidate is actually tailored more towards combat encounters than social checks. This guide will showcase when you can unlock this skill, how to use it in combat, and briefly cover when Intimidation checks appear in dialogue.
Unlocking The Intimidation Skill
Intimidation is a tier two skill located in the second row of the Social skill tree. You'll need to invest four skill points in the first row before you'll be able to allocate the Intimidation skill. There are no quests that unlock this skill for free.
Once you've invested a skill point into Intimidation, subsequent ranks will unlock once you've intimidated a certain number of enemies. This must be done in combat to receive credit; dialogue options with the Intimidation tag do not count. The exact levelin🐼g requi꧋rements for the skill are as follows:

How To Intimidate In Combat
Social skills in Starfield may be used in combat through the scanner interface. To intimidate someone in combat, open your scanner and toggle the Social submenu—A on Xbox, Circle on PlayStation, or E on PC. All of your enemy manipulation skills should appear to the right of your scanner. Select the Intimidation option and activate it on the NPC. You may only attempt an intimidation check once. ꦉIf the check fails, they will not be affected and will immediately turn𓆉 hostile.
If successful, the target will run away from your character and attempt to hide in an adjacent room. This lasts until the intimidate effect runs out, which lasts roughly 30 seconds. You can extend this by maxing out the Intimidation skill. There is no limit to how many targets you can intimidate at any given moment. Beware that the chance of intimidating an NPC seems fixed at 65%, regardless of your ranks in the Intimidation skill or similar social skills. Chems and other items that buff your persuasion chance do not affect your chance to intimi🎃date characters in combat.
Companion Reactions
Using the Intimidation skill on neutral NPCs will draw the ire of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:most members of Constellation, causing them to leave your party o♈utright if you intimidate multiple people. Hostile NPCs may be intimidated with zero consequence.
You cannot use Intimidation o🌞n your own companions or crew 👍members.
How To Intimidate In Dialogue
As with most skills in Starfield, the Intimidate skill adds certain dialogue options with the [Intimidation] tag beside them. Nearly all Intimidate dialogue options will appear during persuasion checks. Intimidation checks tend to be medium (orange) or hard (red) difficulty, but they offer substantially more persuasion progress when used successfully. You can increase the likelihood of these checks succeeding by ranking up your Persuasion skill or by consuming items that temporarily boost your persuasion chance. Intimidating characters this way does not grant progress towards your next Intimidation rank.
