These items are called Contraband, and they're differentiated with a yellow icon beside them whenever you look at the item name. If you want to smuggle Contraband into a major city to sell it, you'll need to find a ship with Shielded Capacity.
Where To Find Shielded Capacity
Each major city in Starfield has a Ship Technician near the Spaceport who sells a bunch of ships with different reactor types. Unfortunately, you won't find any ship with Shielded Capacity from these merchants. A ship's Shielded Capacity is shown just below the amount of Cargo it can hold when you look at its stats.
Shielded Capacity is something that lets you evade various scans done by the UC Vanguard or Freestar Collective when you enter their solar systems, so it's obvious why the vendors in their cities don't sell ships with it. The only way to get a ship with Shielded Cargo is by getting involved in Space Combat with the ships of Crimson Fleet or other hostile Factions.
You can find these ships when you enter a solar system at random, but you can also go to the "Ship" mark on the map.
Sometimes, this mark leads you into a trap where you start getting attacked by 🉐various ships, giving you the perfect opportunity.
You'll have to dock your ship on the enemy ship and then pilot it to check its stats. If you find any Shielded Capacity, you can Register the ship and use it to smuggle Contraband.ඣ Keep in mind that Shielded Capacity only gives you a 59 percent chance to evade scans, which can further be 🏅increased using Scan Jammers.
On the other hand, if your Cargo Hold is full or if your Contraband's weight is close to the Shielded Capacity, there's a higher chance of getting detected on the scan.
