Now that the serious part is out of the way, where can you find the Starborn Trader, and what's their deal, anyway? You may have heard the term, or maybe you haven't, but either way, it's well worth bumping into this fellow in New Game Plus.

The Starborn Trader 101

Overview of a planet and its moon in Starfield

Alright, let's dig into this. The Starborn Trader, by his very nature, would not make sense prior to New Game Plus. After all, you're not exactly on friendly terms with the Starborn, and more critically, the Starborn Trader knows exactly what you are. And, unless you're reading this without having concluded your initial playthrough of the main story, you know exactly what we mean.

The Starborn Trader shows up as one of the many characters who you may encounter upon grav-jumping into a star system. Like all the rest, you have the option of ignoring an incoming hail; and, like all the rest, you should go ahead and take the call. Starfield's script will refer to him as 'Mysterious Captain' at first.

Where in the galaxy is the Starborn Trader, you may ask? There have been conflicting reports. What we believe that means - and we shall update this if it's proven otherwise - is that he's a random encounter like other sudden hails. The key difference being, you won't bump into him until New Game Plus.

What makes this guy so noteworthy, other than his identity and your own? He's a trader; it's right there in the name. And the Starborn Trader's inventory contains some incredible equipment that's largely well worth the somewhat steep asking prices.

We're talking north of 60k credits in some cases, but then, how much would you be willing to fork up for a long-range weapon with an incredibly high damage rate, a decent rate of fire, and the potential to inflict your foes with one of several different brutal types of bonus damage? Our advice is to buy everything you think you'll want from the Starborn Trader, because who knows when you'll cross paths again?
