A single cycle is exactly 60 seconds.
While not prominently displayed, the most important timekeeper is the cycle. This is what is listed in the Administration window, with Supply and Demand being counted by a per-cycle rate. Since this window is used to determine if you're producing enough of a resource, it's worth learning how to convert to this rate.

How Fast Is The Fast Forward Option?
You have three time options: Normal Speed, Fast Forward, and Pause.
- Normal Speed is standard, and what all the numbers in this guide and in-game refer to.
- Fast Forward runs at approximately 1.3x speed, So a Tax cycle is seven seconds instead of ten, and so on.
