Updated on July 14, 2023: We've come back to our Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life pet and horse guide again this week to include a bit more information on cat friendship in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life.
How To Care For Your Dog
When you first move onto your farm, two dogs will approach you and Takakura as the cutscene begins to wrap up. Takakura's not a fan of dogs, but he begrudgingly lets you keep one of the two dogs.
There's no real difference between the two dogs, only a💎esthetic things. Both behave in the same ways, and require the same care.
The dog you don't choose, Takakura will bring it to the city and find it a new home - no worries about the un-chosen dog's fate!
You can then name your dog anything you'd like, and it will then have a doghouse directly beside your house on your farm. It has a food bowl as well, so don't forget to feed it mushrooms and wild plants to keep it well-fed.
You don't have to feed the dog, though - nothing bad happens if you don't put food in its bowl, and it will still react to you and your trainings the same.
Additionally, you can opt to train your dog, teaching it four different tricks. Your dog will progressively improve on their skills the more you work on sജaid skill together.
Dogs who are both well-trained and of a high friendship with you can help you herd your livestock around on the farm. You can also call the dog w✅herever you are in town, and it will sh🦩ow up faithfully at your side.
How Do You Get A Cat?
Your cat will come from Romana in Year Two. Romana will come to your farm on this day telling you she's already got too many cats to keep this one, and gives it to you.
Like the dog, you'll be allowed to name the cat, and it will then live on your farm. The pet food bowl by the dog house feeds both your dog and cat now, so expect to fill it more often.
Also like the dog, nothing happens if you don't feed the cat.
Cat Friendship
Unlike your dog, you're not able to train your cat, making the interactions with your cat very limited.
You can carry your cat around town and spend some time introducing it to the townsfolk, and feeding it increases your cat friendship.
Outside of this, your cat isn't up to much - it will nap and interact with animals around the farm, like cats do. You can interact with it to raise your friendship level.
How Do You Get A Horse?
Takakura gives you your horse after you'd have time to adjust to your new life a bit, in Summer of Year One. He ought to call you to th🌞e🌼 Barn in the late-morning to give it to you.
There, he'll ask you to guess which color horse he's gotten for you. You get the color you choose from the liಌst, so be sure to pick something you like.
You cannot change the color of your horse later on - this is the only horse you get.

After this, you'll be prompted to place a feeding trough in the Barn with your Cows and Sheep.
The horse takes up a barn slot, and, when not being used for transport, will act much like your livestock - it will go inside and outside with the rest of the barn animals when called. It needs to be given Fodder just like the rest of the livestock, as well.
Be sure to brush your horse in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life to keep it happy and free of visible 💞dirt.
How Do I Ride My Horse?
Unlike the rest of the livestock, though, the horse can be taken off the farm and ridden as transportation to help your farmer move around the Valley a bit faster. It can jump any fence your farmer can jump, meaning you can ride through town with ease.
You can walk up to your horse from the side, and you'll notice the "Talk" button will now say, "Ride" instead. The angle can be touchy, but as long as you're standing at your horse's side, you'll get it.
You can also call your horse from anywhere, using the same button you use to call your dog.
You'll see one of the options in this sub-menu is "Call Horse" once you have a horse living on your farm. Selecting it will cause the screen to fade, and you'll be on horseback when the game loads back in.
Why Can't I Get On My Horse?
If you can't ride your horse in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, it's entirely likely that your horse is asleep.
To get around this, use the shortcut to call your horse - this wakes it from its slumber, and you'll be riding off in an instant.
