October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Capcom is teaming up with the to release pink costumes in Street Fighter𝔍 5 for playable all-star fighters Chun-Li and Ryu.
The special pink-hued costumes are designed to bring more awareness to the disease that affects millions of people each year, especially women, and raise funds for research into treatments and a possible cure for breast cancer. The costumes come in two variants &🌟mdash; the first variant being all pink with black layers and the other one all white with some pink and black layers.
You can buy the costumesꦑ individually for $5.99 or purchase them together for $🌠9.99, with all proceeds going towards breast cancer research.
BCRF President and CEO Myra Bibliowit said the company is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Capcom to give Street Fighter 5 playe🍃rs the option to dress their favorite characters in pink for a great cause.
“This year, breast cancer became the most common cancer worldwi💜de, impacting 2.3 million people,” Biblowit said. “The need for better, more effective treatments have never been greater. We’re grateful for the opportunity to highlight this critical need throu💦gh Capcom’s wide reach. Through this partnership, we are poised to make a direct and tangible impact on advancing lifesaving science—together.”
From October 12 through November 12, Capcom will donate 100 percent of the proceeds received from every purchase of the pink Chun-Li and Ryu costumes to BCRF with a guaranteed minimum of $25,000. The total amou🌜n🍸t of its donation will be revealed at the end of the campaign.
One in four women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lifetime, and it has caused the greatest number of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. This year alone, an estimated 685,000 women have passed away as a result of the disease. Thankfully, breast cancer-related deaths in the U.S. have declined by 40% since BCRF was fo♔unded in 1993, as research into effective treatments continues to keep breast cancer at bay.
With the pink costumes for Chun-Li and Ryu, Capcom is doing public good by helping women and others affected by breast cancer get the treatment they need to go into remission or prevent it from happening in the first place. We can only hope other video game companies follow in Capcom's footsteps and come up with their own Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaigns this year and beyond.
