Let's say you're trying to catch a legendary Pokemon: a roaming Legendary that will instantly flee on its first turn. How can you ever have a hope of making this capture? Luckily, there are abilities and moves that can stop a Pokemon in the🍌ir tracks, and one of the most well-known moves to do that 🌟is Mean Look.

Me♏an Look is a Normal-type move that prevents its target from switching out or fleeing. It always hits, unless the opponent has used a move such as Fly or Dig. It has considerable use in both NPC battles and competitive play, and several strong Pokemon are able to learn it.

Updated August 28, 2021 by Doruk Kaptan: Pokemon is an ever-evolving franchise with constant new game 🤡releases, additional media, and lots more. Tha🦩t means the strength, effectiveness and usability of moves and Pokemon change constantly as well.

With the new generation of Pokemon on the horizon, we're taking a look at the best Pokemon with access to the situational — but extremely effective — move Mean Look. Not too many Pokemon can learn it, and even fewer can make use of it, but it's totally worth keeping an eye on, especially for story playthroughs.

15 Meowstic

Pokemon XY Anime Gym Battle

Beating out Absol by one point, Meowstic has a base stat total of 466, but only male Meowstic are able to learn Mean Look. The gender differences between Meowstic are not only in their appearances, but in their learnsets as wel𒈔l.

Female Meowstic learns offensive moves, while male Meowstic learn more defensive and support moves. This explains why the male Meowstic is given Mean Look, which it learns right from the get-go at level one. If you have ever gotten a seemingly unwarranted and perturbed glare from a cat, it might be the inspiration for male Meowstic's moveset.

14 Runerigus & Co🍬fagrigus 🎃

Cofagrigus was introduced iꦏn Generation Five,🍃 representing a possessed Coffin in Pokemon form. Having a base stat total of 483, It is able to learn Mean Look at level 51, while its previous form, Yamask, learns it at level 45.

This changed dramatically in Generation Eight, with the introduction of both a Galarian form of Yamask and Cofagrigus, called Runerigus. Runerigus is thought to be based on the Ingvar Runestones, which are located in Europe. Though possessing ღthe same base stat total, now both Cofagrigus and Runerigus learn Mean Look at level 28.

13 Mismagius

Mismagius as it appears in the Pokemon anime

Whether it learns the move as a Misdreavus at level 19 or through a Move Relearner once it becomes a Mismagius, this Pokemon is quite terrifying to face in a fight. It has a very high Sp. Atk stat of 105, and can quite easily pull off a series of intimid꧙ating Calm Minds if it traps a weak opponent in with itꦫ.

A horrible strategy that Mismagius could use is using Mean Look to trap a Pokemon in battle, and then Curse to slowly whittle away its opponent's life. While not really viable in a competitive battle, it can surely help bypass some annoying fights in a playthrough.

12 Absol

Pokemon Unite Speedsters Absol

Moving on to a very mysterious and intriguing entry, it's the Disaster Pokemon, Absol. Known for its ability to predict natural disasters and warn humans, it was unfairly judged as the cause of said natural disasters. In-game, Absol has a base stat total of 465.

Absol doesn't learn Mean Look via leveling up. Instead, it learns the move through breeding. This was possible from Generation Four through Seven, meaning Absol couldn't learn Mean Look in its Generation Three debut appearance.

11 Dusknoir

Pokemon Anime Ghost Type Dusknoir with pink background during combat

The final evolution of Duskull and Dusclops that debuted in Generation Four, Dusknoir actually shares a base stat total of 525 with Umbreon. As of Generation Eight, Duskull can learn Mean Look at level 28. It can be evolved into Dusknoir by trading it while it's holding a Reaper Cloth.

Dusknoir is perhaps best known for its significant role in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness, and Explorers of Sky. Its eerie nature fits the role perfectly, so why wouldn't it have Mean Look?

10 Mandibuzz

Pokemon Mandibuzz Flying In The Air

Mandibuzz is a Dark and Flying-type Pokemon introduced in Generation Five, as a counterpart to the physical tank Braviary. Mandibuzz however, relies on defense and long😼evity instead of hitting hard. It can become a very annoying wall to break in the right team.

While its usage dipped a little with the introduction of Fairy types and overall power creep, Mandibuzz still manages to be strong in the right circumstances. It has amazing support moves, like Tailwind, Knock off and Taunt. Even if its competitive resume is not what it used to be, an in-game wall like Mandibuzz with Mean Look to help you capture evasive Legendaries is really nice to ha𒁏ve.

9 Smeargle

Smeargle from the anime holding its tail and looking derpy

Smeargle has reigned as king of the catchers for generations, and Mean Look is just one part of the equation. With its Sketch attack, Smeargle can copy (almost) any move in the game from its opponent, and for many years people have been creating Smeargle with Mean Look, Spore, and False🐼 Swipe.

With this devastating combination of attacks, no wild Pokemon is safe from your attempts to catch it. Mean Look is specifically for those pes🙈ky roaming Pokemon, such as the Legendary beasts of Generation Two, who would love to taunt yo🍒u with their༺ power before running away.

8 ๊ Gardevoir And Gallade

Gardevoir & Gallade side by side: Gallade on the left using leaf blade, Gardevoir on the right looking nervous

Being the two branches of a split evolution, both Gardevoir and Gallade have access to Mean Look. The two are both versatile Pokemon in their own right, being capable of both offense and defense. They get other amazing moves too, such as Moonbl🌄ast and Calm Mind for Gardevoir, Close Combat and Knock Off for Gallade.

While Gallade is one of the cooler designs, and had a huge part in the remakes 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, Gardevoir is likely the stronger of the two as Wally's ace. With versatile sets utilizing choice items and the occasional setup sweeper, Gardevoir is truly a force to be reckoned with. In a story playthrough however, Gardevoir is still a great option to help you capture skittish wild Pokemon.

7 🐈 ♍ Krookodile

Krookodile from the anime, crouching, ready to attack in a stadium

Arguably the Pokemon with the most swag, Krookodile was introduced in Generation Five, already having earned its cool-guy criminal stripes. Krookodile boasts a stat total of 509, and with an ability like Intimidate, it's no wonder this crocodile is able to learn Mean Look.

However, it will take some breeding to achieve a Mean Look Krookodile. Breeding with Umbreon, Patrat, Watchog, or a male Meowstic can allow a Sandile to learn the desired move, which you can then evolve into Krookodile. Too bad we can't get some rad sunglasses on it as well!

6 Umbreon

Umbreon from the Pokemon Anime Cropped

The dark horse of Eeveelutions (literally), Umbreon has quite the 🍌cult following — especially with its undeniable strength and unique shiny coloring. Having the same base stat total as all other Eeveelutions (525), it can be a surefire threat on the battlefield, and a cute, cuddly creature off it.

Umbreon's moveset has been inconsistent throughout the Generations, learning Mean Look at level 42 until Generation Four, where it was changed to level 57. Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 changed this again to level 37, before finally ending up at level 50 in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon Sword & Shield.
