Summary

  • We've collected a variety of the strongest snake (and snake-like) Pokemon currently in the Pokedex.
  • We've taken into account access to powerful moves and decent type coverage when it comes to our ranking.
  • But of course in addition to looking at incredible stats and signature moves, we've also examined the iconic design of these snake-like Pokemon.

Snakes are fascinating creatures that strike wonder and terror into hearts all over the globe (depending on the owner of the heart.) Because art draws inspiration from real life, it is no surprise that many different Pokemon have been based on snakes, from Generation I's Ekans and Arbok to Generation VIII's Silicobra.

𓆏The 21 Most Underrated Pokemon Of All Time, Ranked

With so many different Pokémon in the world, it's easy to forget sღome of the better ones. These underrated Pokémon are a great addition to any team.

But we know what you're here for. You want to find out which snake is the best, the strongest, and the deadliest? If someone threw every snake Pokemon into a battle pit, who would win? Rest assured, no snakes were harmed during the making of this article. Rather, through data analysis, the strongest snake will emerge victorious. This will include not only Pokemon that are classified as Serpentine by the Pokedex, but also Pokemon that are visibly long and slithery.

Updated February 12, 2024 by Jon Eakin: Pokemon is, if you'll forgive the pun, always evolving. New Pokemon continue to be added to the series, along with new mechanics and approaches to competitive play. With that said, we thought this article actually needed to look backwards, rather than forwards, and include some of the more classic snake and serpentine Pokemon that carried so many of you through your earlier Pokemon adventures, while remaining strong even today.

13 Seviper

The Fang Snake Pokemon

Seviper sticking their snake tongues out.

Seviper looks like one of the more dangerous Pokemon, sporting long fangs and a bladed tail. This doesn't entirely translate into strength, with Seviper bringing up the rear when it comes to the strongest serpents.

What Seviper does have is an excellent movepool, making it versatile. With moves like Aqua Tail, Dig, and X-Scissor in its arsenal you'll rarely find yourself in a situation where Seviper has no options available.

12 Arbok

The Cobra Pokemon

Arbok prepares to battle in front of a blue background

No conversation about snake Pokemon would be complete without the iconic Arbok, who will always be associated with Jessie from Team Rocket. In the anime, Arbok was constantly losing, but you might be surprised that it's not as weak as you were led to believe.

Granted, Arbok is not the strongest snake Pokemon. But what it does have is access to Coil, a great move for any serpent, and decent type coverage with moves like Fire Fang, Iron💯 Tail, and Thunder Fang.

11 ♐ Eviolite Dragonair 🙈

The Dragon Pokemon

A Dragonair Pokemon rearing back in the anime.

Dragonair certainly loses its snake status when it evolves, but it's worth remembering that evolving your Pokemon isn't mandatory. If you give a Dragonair Eviolite, an item that boosts the stats of unevolved Pokemon, you can keep it a lovely blue serpent rather than an inexplicable orange monster.

Dragonair has an incredible pool of moves to pull from, covering a wide range of types as well as status moves. Using the Eviolite elevates Dragonair and allows yoꦇu to keep your squad sublimely slithery.

If you're looking for a good moveset for your Dragonair, we'd suggest Dragon Dance, Extreme Speed, Outrage, and Rest. Dragon Dance will boost your stats so that Extreme Speed and Outrage hit hard. Rest is there to replenish your HP, and the Shed Skin ability means you won't suffer from the status effect downsides of Outrage or Rest.

10 Gorebyss

The South Sea Pokemon

Gorebyss in the Pokemon anime, jumping from the water.

This elegant 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Water-type is one of two possible evolutions for Generation III's Clamperl, the other being Huntail. According to the Pokedex, the color of Gorebyss' body changes depending on the season, becoming a more vivid pink in the springtime.

Though Gorebyss and Huntail have the same base stats (a total of 485), Gorebyss has a more hel🅰pful movepool, including Psychic and Ice-type attacks. It can learn Psychic, Blizzard, AND Shadow Ball.

9 🌜 Sandaconda ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ

The Sand Snake Pokemon

Dynamax Sandaconda in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Sandaconda is Pokemon Sword & Shield's take on the snake, as it were. Evolving from Silicobra at level 36 and above, Sandaconda is a pure Ground-type that is perfectly suited for the Desert environment preferred by many species of snakes such as Sidewinders and Rattlesnakes.

Coming in with a base stat total of 510, Sandaconda's greatest strengths come from its ability to use Stealth Rock, Earthquake, and Coil, the last one being quintessential for any true snake Pokemon.

Sandaconda benefits greatly when it's able to Gigantamax, but it's worth remembering that this feature is only available in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This means just how competitive Sandaconda is will vary depending on which game you're playing.

8 Steelix

The Iron Snake Pokemon

Mega Steelix bursts through ice in the mountainside in the Pokemon anime.

Strangely known as the "Iron Snake" Pokemon, this massive Steel snake is the strongest Steel-type of its generation. Steelix has a base stat total of 510 and a Mega Evolution that makes it 100 points stronger. Quite a few of the snakes on this list have alternate forms, a testament to the gre✤atness of the species.

Some of the most famous Steelix in the series are Brock's Steelix in the Pokemon anime, which he was able to Mega Evolve, as well as Gym Leader Jasmine's Steelix who appears in the anime, manga, and games.

Mega Steelix is a shimmering sight to behold, but Mega Evolution is only available in select games of the series, and hasn't been featured for several generations. Keep this in mind while you build your ultimate serpent squad.

7 Serperior

The Regal Pokemon

Pokemon - Serperior taking orders from his trainer

The final evolution of Unova's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Grass-type starter Pokemon, Serperior says it all without saying a word: snakes are the superior species, and legs are overrated. Giving up the limbs it had in its previous forms is a bold choice that must be respected, but that's not the only reason Serperior deserves respect.

It has a base stat total of 528 and a surprisingly useful Hidden Ability, Contrary. Combined with the move Leaf Sto🅘rm, Contrary will conver♈t the lowering of its Special Attack by 2 stages into an increase by two stages, making it all the more powerful with each Leaf Storm.

6 Milotic

The Tender Pokemon

A Milotic from the Pokemon anime, awaiting orders from its trainer.

Milotic is easily the most beautiful serpent of the sea, especially since its evolution requires a high level of Beauty. Many trainers have wielded this gorgeous Pokemon such as Pike Queen Lucy and the Pokemon anime's Lusamine, but Milotic's preferred role is to calm those it encounters.

There are a lot of fire-type moves to choose from in Pokemon but some of them are m🦩uch more powerful than others. Here are 15 great examples!

The Pokedex refers to it as the "Tender Pokemon," as it can release "a pulsing wave of energy that brings soothing calm to troubled hearts." With a base stat total of 540, it can also fight, if soothing doesn't work out.

5 Gyarados

The Atrocious Pokemon

A Gyarados in the Pokemon anime, roaring on a tropical beach.

Gyarados is often thought of as a dragon due to its inspiration most likely coming from Chinese dragons and sea dragons, though its typing isn't Dragon. Inspiration was undoubtedly drawn from sea serpents as well, if its long body and scales don't give it away.

Gyarados can quench any flames in its normal form or Mega Evolution, and is one of the most well-known snakes on this list due to its Generation I origins. The shiny Gyarados in Lake of Rage didn't hurt its popularity, either.

Mega Evolution boosts the base stat total of Gyarados by 100, as well as changing up the Type and Ability of the Pokemon, but hasn't been a feature in the mainline series for several years now. Don't forget to take that into account if you're considering adding this angry sea serpent to your team.

4 ꦡ 🦹 Zygarde 50%

The Order Pokemon

Pokemon Masters EX Best Anni Units Serena and Zygarde prepare to attack.

Zygarde was first introduced in the series in its 50% Forme, and is subsequently the form most fans are familiar with. It also happens to look like a shimmering, scaled snake, and a considerably strong onꦉe, too.

It has a base stat total of 600 and has one of the rarest shiny forms in Pokemon history. Zygarde is also a member of the aura trio as the Order Pokemon, unleashing its power whenever the order of Xe🐲rneas and Yveltal has been disrupted.
