It has also stated that Subnautica 2 won't have traditional live-service elemtsn such as a battle pass or microtransactions, but will be supported with additional content for "many years to come". The original Subnautica does not have multiplayer, though there are of course mods as fans have been eager to play it with friends since it launched♌ back in 2018. So, introducing multiplayer in an official capacity to the sequel is a huge leap, but the GaaS model accompanying it is already proving controversial with the community.

Up until now, it was simply described as "The Next Subnautica," but it has been officially labelled as "Subnautica 2". Some believed Below Zero filled that role, assuming the next game would be '3', but now it looks to be more of a spin-off.
The document also confirms that Subnautica will be leaving the Unity engine behind in favour of Unreal Engine 5, which Krafton claims will allow for "stunning stylised graphics". We're still waiting on a full reveal, but at least we have some clearer details on what to expect.
