Even though they don't feel good for the ol' hype train, most people will tell you that game delays are good. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, a bad game is bad forever, but a delayed game can eventually be good. The truth isn't as black and white. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed several times and still released in a state so shockin🍬gly bad and hubristic that it shou🔯ld be preserved in a museum. All the devs continued to crunch behind the scenes. You'll frequently see people comment "take your time!" under game delay announcements, and on the surface this seems supportive, but what it amounts to in many cases is "crunch for longer!" Obviously, this is not the intent of the commenters, but it is the truth however you slice it.
There are other issues with game delays as well. Often, they can be the result of the game being completely retooled and landing in development hell, or can occur because of high profile departures caused by allegations and scandals. To my knowledge, none of these things have happened with Suici🧜de Squad: Kill The Justice League, which was recently d🍃elayed into 2023. It's been a long time since 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rocksteady last made a game (168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Arkham Knight in 2015), but there are a few factors to consider. While Suicide Squad to Batman isn't exactly a whole new IP, it's still a significant adjustment - especially when we're moving from one playable character in Batman to four distinct characters in Suicide Squad.
There's also the fact we're only recently entered a new console generation, and as a result developers aren't just developing for multiple platforms, but multiple generations. You may also have noticed the pandemic, of course, which already knocked Warner Bros. titles 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Hogwarts Legacy and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gotham Knights back into 2022. When I wrote that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:2022 was going to be a great 💃🐼year for games, one of the key arguments was that many of 2021's biggest hitters had been pushed back because of the pandemic, and we were essentially about to enjoy a double-stuffed Oreo of a year. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Suicide Squad takes away a sliver of whatever that cream is inside an Oreo, and several other titles may move back to 2023 as well, but we still have plenty to look forward t꧂o this year.
That's the reason Suicide Squad's delay feels like a blessing in disguise. 2022 is a stacked year, and especially for those of you who have a real job instead of talking about toys all day, that means spending a lot of money on great games. Too many games is a better problem than not enough games (a problem that, on the triple-A front at least, ꦛ2021 su💙ffered from), but a better problem is a problem nonetheless. It’s not just that there are too many games though, there are spec🔜ific r💮easons why Suicide Squad in particular might benefit from a delay.
Three games under the Warner Bros. banner, all based on popular, existing IP, would have unavoidably been compared had they launched within four months of each other. While Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad don’t share a universe, they both share the wider idea of the Batman universe and are therefore even more likely to be compared. Even a year apart, it will probably still be mentioned (as will other superhero games like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Guardians of the Galaxy), but at least they’ll both have a little bit of 💖breathing room.
From a development point of view, as long as there's no crunch death march to go with it, "take your time" is always better, and it's encouraging to see that sentiment more - even if it can sometimes be misguided. But even in terms of its critical reception, Suicide Squad's delay gives it distance. Distance from Guardians, which surprised us ♚all with how much narrative depth it brought to the genre, distance from Gotham Knights, which through its associations with both Batman and Warner Bros. will inevitably be compared to it, and distance from all the other big hitters of 2022 that will be a drain on your wallets and will get the lion's share of the critical airtime. Delays aren't always good, but for Suicide Squad, it definitely is.
