A segmented speedru﷽n suggests that Super Mario Bros. speedrunners a✅re approaching the limit of how fast the game can be completed.
Prior to the popularisation of the internet and online gaming, if you could beat your friends at your favorite games, you could assume that there was no one better at those games than you. Turns out that was never the case at all. Nothing makes us feel more inferior than watching a speedrunner complete our favorite game in minutes. Other than being yelled at by ten-year-olds on Fortnite.
One of the most popular games to speedrun is the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Mario Bros. Years later, those dedicated to the game and its speedruns continue to shave milliseconds off of the speedrun world record. It was 168澳洲幸运5开奖网♍:broken as recently as two weeks ago by Niftski. It now stands at 4:55:430ꩵ. A▨ full 216 milliseconds faster than the previous record.
However, it seems that Mario's speedrunners are fast-approaching the upper limit of how fast the game can be completed. That's according to current world record holder Niftski. They completed a segmented speedrun of Super Mario Bros. in less ꧙than 4:55. Since it was segmented it doesn't count as an official world record, but it is pretty telling. The final segment of the run from 8-1 to the end can be seen below.
Niftski explains that when combining the segm🅷ent with the world record pace up until the point at which it starts, it would be a sub-4:55 run. Not only does that mean it can be done all in one go, but it also means that Niftski and their fellow sp𓄧eedrunners' job is almost done. The tool-assisted speedrun world record on Super Mario Bros. is 4:54. As soon as that record and the regular record are equal, there's nowhere else to go.
Niftski predicts that the final world record will be set in either 2021 or 2022, so pretty soon. Niftski will be hoping to be the o🌃ne who sets it, of course, as after that, it will be nothing more than a case of equaling that record for everyone else. There are plenty of other options when it comes to speedrunning, but for those dedicated to Super Mario Bros. and nothing else, the journey might soon be over.
