Indie developer Pillow Castle launched 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Superliminal nearly two years ago, dropping players into a world where nearly anything can be manipulated by simply changing your perspective. That's probably better life advice than what you might normally hear.
Superliminal is an incredibly unique, often hilarious, yet equally somber, nonlinear, but also totally linear experience that everyone must play — and that's a perfectly justifiable perspective. Here are things we wish we knew before playing Superliminal.
10 🃏 A Different Kind Of Puzzle
Superliminal is all about thinking outside of the box. The p𓄧layer progresses through complete manipulation of their surrounding, all ꧟while using their perspective. Similarly to other games in the genre, Superliminal starts off on a simplistic note, as to allow the player to acclimate to their core gameplay loop.
An apple, a piece of cheese, or even a tiny chess piece can be picked up and completely altered in a matter of seconds. Take everything you see at face value. If something you're holding appears small, it more than likely is as small as you see it — no matter how big or how small it was when you picked it up. The game commonly places you in situations where you need to get from point A to point B, however sometimes point B can be thousands of feet above you. Superliminal's puzzles beg you to experiment just as much as they beg you to be creative.
9 If You're Stuck, Try Changing How You're Looking At It
Like most obstacles in the game, take this tip at face value. Literally change the way you're looking at something. Sometimes taking two steps back completely alters your overall perception of the puzzle, and proves to be much more efficient than standing still.
Superliminal provides everything you need to tackle and to overcome every situation — sometimes in more ways than one. More often than not, the problem lies from within rather than in the game. Sheesh, this is really spiraling into a therapy session, isn't it?
8 ൲ It Wears Its Inspirations On Its Sleeve
Superliminal might initially come off as a linear puzzle platformer with a fancy twist to gameplay, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Pillow Castle incorporated some of the best moments from Portal and The Stanley Parable into Superliminal with additional twists and turns. Portal and its sequel offered two of the most memorable experiences in recent memory, while also effortlessly blending in a narrative that is both engaging and haunting. Portal taught us to experiment, while The Stanley Parable just never knew when to end — and we mean this in the best way possible.
Superlimi😼nal introduces a new and innovative twist to the conventional puzzle formula, while also telling a whacky, out-of-this-world story of its 🧜own. Though you never encounter another human in your time with Superliminal, its world feels lived in; it feels almost uncanny.
7 🍌 So♔lutions Are Easier Than You Think
Superliminal never gets 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:frustrating, and i♓ts solutions are never impossible to imagine. The devs o𒐪ffer everything you need to tackle any problem.
One puzzle traps you in a room with an apple, two high-powered fans and an exit button directly across from you. Tapping the apple repeatedly creates more apples that grow progressively larger the more you click. There is a reset button, but this particular puzzle leads you to believe that it takes hundreds of apples to solve one of your problems. Since the button lies at the top of a slope that the player is unable to climb, spawning hundreds of apples proves to be meaningless, as the fans quickly blow them to the side. Doing so doesn't technically challenge your perspective, and in a game all about perspective, realizing this is the next step to solving the puzzle. What? Y💙ou thought we were just going to tell you how to solve it?
6 🍌 Easter Eggs Galore!
It seems to be a theme in Superliminal to take everything at face value. When they say there are 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Easter eggs to hunt within the game, they literally meant it. Don't expect to find a painting of Master Chief in one of the hallways.
These little eggs come in all different kinds of colors and sizes, and they're cleverly hidden throughout all of the chapters. Don't be afraid to go out of bounds. More likely than not, if you're able to phsycially fit in that boundry, the developers intended for you to be there. Nothing is unobtainable — Jeez Lousie, here we go again with the motivational speaking! If Easter eggs aren't enough, there are also a slew of hidden blueprints and chess pieces to uncover and collect, with each unlocking their own corresponding achievement too. Keep in mind that Blueprints can be found in every chapter except for five and nine.
5 ♏ Tap The Fire Extinguisher 𓆉
There's no shortage of things to touch in Superliminal. Two common objects that appear throughout the game are the fire extinguisher and the fire alarm — both of which you can find at the start of every chapter once you leave your room. There might be some deeper meaning behind this, but I think we've gone a little more profound than we needed to admittedly. Though this particular achievement only involves the fire extinguisher, the two are so commonly placed beside each other that we can't help but interact with both!
In order to unlock the "Fires Extinguished" achievement, the player must empty all fire extinguishers, which usually takes around three or so taps. If you're feeling really annoying, earn the "Fire Safety Achieved" achievement by pulling every single fire alarm in the game. This game is so addicting, you'll definitely replay to find them all.
4 ღ Take Time T🌠o Appreciate The Environments
Pillow Castle is an indie dev to keep an eye out for in the future. Everything on display here feels so true and wholely unique to Superliminal. Looking at a fire extinguisher or a soda can is comparable to looking at a gravity hammer or plasma pistol. Superliminal's initial simplicity adapts and evolves into something much greater. This world evokes so many emotions, and is ultimately one of the main reasons why Superliminal is so powerful.
One environment towards the end of the game is particularly uncanny. You enter your office only to then stumble upon a massive, empty parking lot that spa🐻ns for miles on end. Its quiet, yet peacful nightly breeze sets the tone. The office you intitally thought was back in your hotel, turns out to be a little shack held together by a few wood panels and rusty screws from the outside. Superliminal makes the impossible possible. Superliminal is as expansive as your own imagination.
3 ♕ That One Moment... ꦍ
Superliminal experiments with tone just as much as it does so with your perspective. Though often funny and light-hearted, the game briefly heads down a dark path. Superliminal, in that moment, plays with typical horror tropes, and makes it obvious that it's doing so only to just...stop. Was it ever supposed to be scary, or was that simply the way you were viewing it based off of your very own definition of what scary is? Maybe darkness scares you, or perhaps the sight of blood. Superliminal takes the baseline of fear and challenges your own perception to realize what it's trying to simulate. This should be a precursor to the new Matrix movie.
2 Just About Everything Is At Your Disposal 🌼
What you see is what you get. Doesn't matter if it appears to be unreac🧸hable. It, without a doubt, is reachable. Think the moon is too far away for you to grab? Think again.
One obstacle challenges the player to place a chess piece on a button a few stories in a chamber below and across from them. You can view this button through a broken glass window. Think back to when we said that everything is much easier than what we initially think. By grabbing that chess piece and lining it up with the button, you essentially solved the puzzle. Don't fret, this very early on!
1 It Begs To Be Replayed ♔
Superliminal isn't a very long game by today's standards, but it does beg the player to consider multiple playthroughs. On top of the Easter eggs and other hidden collectibles, Superliminal has a pretty dedicated speedrunning community. To this point, the fastest glitchless speedrun stands just under 23-minutes, with the glitch speedrun surfacing under ten. It takes some true tried-and-tested skill to memorize just how many times it takes to perfectly manipulate your perspective for each object.
