If you go by the Marvel handbook, Spider-Man isn't one of the strongest in the universe. While he could definitely take on most street level heroes like Daredevil and Moon Knight, he would have a lot of trouble taking on powerhouses like💃 Thor and The Hulk. However, that doesn't mean that he isn't powerful because that's far from the case. His well-known base set of super strength, speed, agility, spider-sense, and wall crawling alone gives his foes plenty to contend with, but then there's a whole other set of superpowers that he has accumulated over the decades that make him even more powerful.
There is a catch to this; a lওot of these extra powers were lost in 2007 because of the "One More Day" storyline. Because of that abominable storyline, reality was rewritten by Mephisto to erase Peter Parker's marriage to Mary Jane Watson from history. As a side effect, many powers that he received in a pair of storylines titled "The Other" and "Changes."
On the other hand, Spider-Man does have some weaknesses. Now, sure, none of them are as blatantly obvious as Superman's Kryptonite, but plenty of Spider-Man's clever adversaries has exploited these kinks in the armor of Spidey over time to bring the wall-crawler to his knees. Some𝕴 of these weaknesses are even the same ones as us normal people have, showing that Spidey is the ultimate relatable superhero. So here they are, the 10 superpowers Spider-Man is hiding and 10 weaknesses only super fans know.
20 Powe💙r: Speaking To Spiders
It's a power that you may not think about often, but talking to spid൲ers actually sounds like a pretty awesome power. When you see a spider in your room, wouldn't like to tell it to get out instead of squishing it? Well, Spider-Man can! Or, his clone can at least.
The flawed clone of Spider-Man, also known as Kaine, has the ability to speak with the creepy crawlies, butꦑ he is deeply embarrassed by it. However, he did use it in a specific instance to locate a nuclear bomb and disarm it. The original Peter Parker also had this ability at one point as a result of giving birth to himself from the husk of a giant spider corpse. It's best not tܫo ask questions, gang.
19 ❀ Weakness: His Spider-Sense Can Be Dulled
Spider-Man's natural speed is enough of a pain in the neck to deal with but combined with his spider-sense, it makes Parker quite the difficult target to nail. If you could figure out a way to disable his spider-sense, though, then he becomes a more manageable foe. Unfortunately for him, the Green Goblin figured out a way back in Amazing Spider-Man #39.
Using his genius level intellect in chemistry, Spidey's arch enemy concocted a gas that Peter thought did nothing to him but in reality disabled his ꦍdanger sense. This allowed the flying Goblin to sneak up and spy on Spidey when he unmasks, revealing to him his secret identity. Next time, Spidey, hit up Iron Man for some respirators.
18 Weakness: His Costume Itself ♓ ꩵ
As iconic as his red and♛ blue spandex suit is, there are some flaws with it. While it's ultimately for the best as it doesn't slow Spider-Man's acrobatic crime-fighting style, it is also true that against heavy gunfire it could be a prob🃏lem.
It's not a problem most of the time, but there are occasions in the comics that Spidey has had to replace his costume for another more defensively sound option. The most notable of these is in Web Of Spider-Man #100 where Spidey has to deal with enemies possessing extremely powerful guns so he develops a solution; the Spider-Ar🥀mor. This new suit made him bulletproof, but it slowed him down and it was destroyed by acid anyway. Poor Peter, 𒐪can never catch a break.
17 ౠ Power: Stronger Than You Think
Alright, so while technically this isn't an extra superpower, it is hidden in that sense that Marvel doesn't make it exactly clear how this happens. But 🍰I know; plot convenience!
Don't you know stress adds to your physical strength?
According to several Marvel sources including The Marvel Encyclopedia, Spider-Man's maximum strength is being able to lift 10 tons. However, there are several times in the comics where Spidey has lifted more than including entire skyscrapers. In the mid-2000s, Spid💝ey's strength did increase to 25 tons, but considering skyscrapers can weigh thousands of tons, this amazing feat of strength is still inexplicable.
16 Power: ꦰHe Can Heal Himself ﷽
When comic book fans say the words "healing 🍎factor", they'ಌre usually referring to either Wolverine or Deadpool. But there are plenty of other characters who have healing factors that don't get as much attention. Spider-Man is one of them.
How else did you think he's survived all his injuries?
Now, to be fair, Spider-Man's healing factor is nowhere near the level of a Wolverine or Deadpool. If you take off one of his limbs or give him a good enough hurt, he's going to need at least a few days to fully recover. Having said that, though, recovering from a gunshot in just 8 hours without even a scar is 🦂pretty incredible. He even once regrew an eyeball after it was eaten in front of his eyes. Gross.
15 Weakness: Can Be Defeated By Household P🅷roducts
People give Superman crap for being able to be defeated by Kryptonite but 🌸to defend the Man of Steel, at least Kryptonite is super rare, making it relatively hard for a villain to find and use. But what if I told you that Spider-Man had a substance that basically did the same thing to him? Well he does, and you can find it in your local drug store; ethyl chloride.
If not for his healing factor, this chemical would end him. Note; never inhale pesticides.
That chemical is a pestici🧜de and has been used in particular by the Smythe family's various Spider-Slayer robots. When used, Peter is brought to his knees and slowly loses powers. Luckily for Peter, he's built up a bit of tolerance for it.
14 Power: Can See In The Dark 𝕴
While night vision is a small potatoes power compared to, say, something like being able to stick to walls, it could still prove to be a very valuable power when it comes to crime fighting. In the middle of the night with little light𝓀ing, you would 🉐be wishing you could see. Luckily for Spidey, he did have this power.
Spider-Man at this point should just develop some night vision lenses for his costume.
This was one of the powers that was lost in the post "One More Day" era, but for a brief period, Spidey was able to see in darkness. In Amazing Spider-Man #528, Spider-Man rescues people from a crumbling buildi𒈔ng when his night visio♛n kicks in for the first time. Not a game changer, but it was a nice bonus.
13 ♛ Weakness: The Symbiote Race
Despite ✤his convoluted backstory and inconsistent moral code, Venom is considered a part of Spider-Man's villains' trinity. This is largely due to just how dangerous Venom is to Spider-Man 𒊎as he is not only physically superior, but also bypasses some of the defenses Peter usually relies on. Namely, his spider-sense.
Combined with the symbiote's ability to camouflage, Spidey has to always watch his back.
Since the Venom symbiote was once bonded to Peter, any other host it bonds with has to be inherent ability to not activate Spidey's spider sense. This allows Venom to get the upper hand on Spid🃏ey in ways no other villain can. Honestly, with all these bonuses, it's embarrassing Venom never ended the wall-crawler.
12 Power: Phenomena﷽l Cosmic Powers 𓆉
Spider-Man has undergon𒁃e various power boosts over the years, but 💝none were more insane than when he attained the Uni-Power in the early 1990s. With this new power, Spidey basically gained the powers of a god able to defeat powerhouses like Magneto and The Hulk with ease.
Did anybody NOT use this costume in the PS1 Spider-Man game?
With these new powers, Spider-Man was able to manipulate the molecular structure of any structure. If I have to explain how stupidly powerful that makes him, you don't have enough imagination. He can also force people to tell the tru🦋th, has stupidly powerful strengthꦕ and can sense things stupidly far away. These powers only lasted for a few issues as the Uni-Power doesn't stay with one for long.
11 ꦫ Weakness: Common Sicknesses 🌱
Stan Lee often tried in the early days of Spider-Man to give him problems that would make him relatable to the reader. ☂This meant pl👍enty of reminders from Aunt May to not come home late, having to juggle both homework and crime fighting and oh yeah, fighting off common illnesses as a superhero.
Captain America doesn't have to deal with crap.
The most memorable example of this was in Amazing Spider-Man #48 when Peter remarks that his costume isn't the best when it comes to winter time in New York and he has to battle with the Vulture while battling a nasty fever and cold. Getting o🙈ut of bed is hard enougওh with that, now try web swinging with that illness!
