A few days after the VALORANT Ignition Series’ initial announcement, Riot Games has revealed the circuit's first North American tournament. Korean organization T1 Entertainment & Sports has linked up with North American esports network Nerd Street Gamers to host the $50,000 event. The T1 x Nerd Street Gamers VALORANT Showdown is set to begin on June 26th, 2020.
Earlier this week, VALORANT developer Riot Games announced the VALORANT , a global tournament circuit meant to kickstart the game’s competitive scene. Riot revealed their partnership with over 20 different esports organizations across the globe, each of which will host their own regional VALORANT tournaments. Events will range ဣfrom invitationals to open tournaments with hefty qualifier circuits, featuring the game’s top talents along with amateur competitors.
The first two VALORANT Ignition Series events were announced earlier this week as well, the G2 Esports VALORANT Invitational and RAGE VALORANT JAPAN, both set to begin on June 19th. The opening tournaments will take place in Europe and Japan, while Riot Games revealed the Ignition Seri𝐆es will in𒀰clude later events in North America, Southeast Asia, Oceania, and many more regions.
North America’s first Ignition Series event is set to come later this month, as T1 partners with Nerd Street Gamers to host a 16-team online tournament. The T1 x Nerd Street Gamers VALORANT Showdown will feature aspiring professional players competing alongside some of VALORANT’s biggest names. Amateur talents can enter the tournament through the two open play-in qualifiers, which will take place on June 20th and 21st. Th♓e top two teams from each of the two qualifiers will advance to the main event.
The main tournament will see those four qualified teams compete against twelve invited teams. T1’s own VALORANT team, full of recognizable names like Braxton “Brax” Pierce and Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham, is currently the only team confirmed to attend. The tournament’s format is yet to be revealed, though the event will offer the biggest prize pool at a VALORANT event to date. The total prize pool stands at $50,000, with the champions receiv♓ing $25,0♏00.
