VOID Interactive launched a new FPS on December 17 dubbed Ready or Not, a game where you play as SWAT police units "called to defuse hostile and confronting situations." However, it has since severed ties with publisher Team17 following ✱the promise of a school shooting level.
A post in the game's subreddit asked, "Should Ready or Not have a school shooting mission?" As spotted by , a developer replied, "You better believe it's gonna." It's currently in early access so more content is being rolled out as it ticks toward a full release, and it looks like one of those updates will include a school shooting scenario. Some have said the idea is insensitive, calling on VOID Interactive to go back on its comment. However, nothing further has been said about the proposed mission.
"VOID Interactive and Team17 have mutually agreed that Team17 will no longer publish Ready or Not," a post from VOID reads on Twitter. "We are confident that this is the right path for the future of Ready or Not, and we thank Team17 for their partnership and wish them great success with their spectrum of games!" There's no mention of the school shooting controversy or plans to implement such a scenario in the game, but many believe this fallout is over exactly that.
Another tweet added, "We also would like to reassure everyone that we are committed to our vision of Ready or Not as a hardcore tactical shooter. We are continually scanning player feedback and will be rolling 🐓out frequent patches/updates over the coming weeks and months."
With the game now being self-published - as shown on its Steam page - it's unclear what the future will hold. At any rate, it's all but confirmed that a school shooting scenario is on the cards. The comment stating as much was only made a few days ago, so either the timing of this split is incredibly unfortunate or this is a reaction - whatever the case, Team17 is no longer affiliated with Ready or Not.
