There are lots of opportunities for you to fish in Terraria, and you can get many useful items by employing this mechanic. Although fishing isn't a necessity for building or surviving in Terraria, it's still worth enjoying from time to time because it makes an otherwise active game into a more peaceful experience.

If you want to fish in Terraria, then you'll need to get a lot of bait. Luckily, there are tons of different methods for acquiring large stacks of bugs throughout your adventure. Here are the best ways to farm bait quickly in Terraria.

Updated February 22, 2023 by Jacqueline Zalace: Bait can be difficult to obtain at the start of the game, so we've updated this guide with additional bait-farming methods.

10 🦩 Breaking Rocks With Worms 🐬

Worm-filled rocks that you see in the background while adventuring is one of the most common ways to collect bait. Worms are great to use as bait while fishing, so building up a supply of🌠 them is a good idea if you plan to enjoy many fishing trips.

Whenever you come across a background rock, you should destroy it because worms may reside beneath it. You won't always collect worms after breaking a rock, but most of the time, you will if you destroy enough of them.

9 ♒ Cavern Snails 𝄹

terraria_underground_cave_area_with_character

Snails are one of the less common types of bait in Terraria, so knowing the best place to find them is crucial. Snails mostly live in the cavern layer of a Terraria map, so you'll have to travel underground if you want to catch them for yourself. You can also find glowing snails in glowing mushroom biomes.

To reach the cavern layer in Terraria, you'll have to travel deep under the surface; this layer ends at the Underworld. Once you find snails, you can use a bug net to pick them up and use them in crafting or as bait while fishing.

8 💖 Searching Thꦆrough A Rainy Forest

Similar to snails, you can use a bug net to catch worms on the surface level of a map. Outside of breaking rocks, another efficient way of finding snails is to travel around the map while it's raining. Worms are common during this weather condition, and you can catch a lot of them if you spend enough time wandering around.

Although this isn't the most exciting way to collect a lot of bait, it's very effective, and you'll always have enough worms since rainfall has a 20 percent chance of occurring each in-game day.

7 𝔉 ♔ Using A Water Candle

When a Water Candle is placed, the rate of enemies and critters that spawn in the nearby area will increase. To be exact, the candle will boost spawn rates by 33 percent. In addition to placing the candle to gain the effect, you can also 'hold' a Water Candle by selecting it from your hotbar.

Placing Water Candles around a town or base is a great𝕴 way𝓰 to cause bugs like fireflies and worms to appear. We recommend placing the candles in a town you have set up since this will prevent enemies from spawning.

6 Using The Tackleꦰ Box ✨

There are many NPCs in Terraria; however, the Angler is unique because you can get fishing quests from this character. You first encounter the Angler while he's sleeping on the sand in an ocean biome, and if you wake him up and there's an empty house available, then he'll be willing to move into it and start assigning fishing quests.

The quests that the Angler grants you are fishing-related, and they have different objectives, mostly to catch rare fish and bring them to him. After completing a quest for the Angler, you'll receive a reward that has a small chance of granting you a Tackle Box, an 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:accessory that decreases the chance that you'll use bait while fishing. This doesn't help you with farming bait, but it's very useful for conserving it.

5 🌌 ꦬ Butterfly Clusters

Whenever a new in-game day begins in Terraria, the spawn rate for butterflies on that day will be random. So occasionally, you'll see almost no butterflies in a single day, while in others, there will be lots of them flying throughout the map. If you run into a large group of butterflies, then it may be worth putting aside what you're currently working on to search for more butterflies since it may be a fantastic opportunity to stock up on this bait.

If you run into a butterfly while adventuring, use a bug net to capture it for later use. Butterflies are found in forest biomes, and they're encountered during the daytime. You can also find Hell Butterflies in the Underworld.

4 Breaking Jun🐎gle ꧅Plants

terraria_jungle_biome_above_ground

If you break the background plants inside a jungle biome, you have a high chance of encountering crawling insects that you can catch and use as fish bait. You can use a pickaxe to break the plants, and you'll then be potentially rewarded with the bugs. This method is particularly useful if you've built your house in a jungle biome, since you won't have to travel too far.

Keep a lookout for plants while you're exploring a jungle biome because there's lots of foliage throughout the area. You can also plant jungle bushes in this biome to grow these plants, which is another reason this is a great method if you're already living in a jungle biome.

3 ไ Nightly Fireflies 𝓰

terraria_fireflies_in_the_night_sky

Towns with NPC characters increase the chance for certain bugs to spawn, and fireflies are one of the best bugs to catch with this method. You'll need to build a few structures to create a town and then get NPCs to live inside of your newly 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:built houses. Fireflies spawn throughout the surface; however, they don't spawn inside of a building, so you'll have to journey outside of your structures during the night to catch them.

Like most insects, you'll need to have a bug net with you to catch fireflies. You can use fireflies for fishing, and although they aren't particularly common, building a town is a great method for farming them. Since fireflies are a light source, you'll have no problem spotting them at night.

2 ♊ Cut Down Grass In The Forest

This isn't the most efficient method of all the ones mentioned on our list so far, but you can find a few bugs by slicing down grass in the forest. If there is tall grass nearby, attack it! There is a chance that a bug might appear.

Although this isn't the best farming method, it's important to keep in mind if you are just walking through the forest to reach your destination. Rather than just walking, walk and slash to get some bugs.

1 U🐬sing A Sonar Potion

Lastly, let's take a look at the Sonar Potion. This isn't used to get more bait; instead, it's used to conserve the bait that you already have. When you take a Sonar Potion, the name of the fish or object caught on the lure will be displayed. This allows you to check what you catch, before actually using the bait.

If you are searching for a specific fish or crate, you can simply stop fishing and not waste bait on things that you don't want. Additionally, you will not reel in trash when the Sonar buff is active. In total, this buff lasts for eight minutes, so make the most of it!
