Look, I’ve already w🍌ritten a fair amount abou𝄹t Digital Eclipse already. It’s doing some of the best work bringing video game history to mainstream audiences. Its Atari collection is a gem. Its168澳洲幸运5开奖网: Karateka collection is a revelation. Its Llamasoft collection is w🥃eird, because Llamasoft is weird, and I think we all agree that might be the fundamental point of Llamasoft.

And these are just the developer’s big Gold Master releases (Atari isn’t officially part of the Gold Master series, b𝔉ut it’s definitely part of the Gold Master series). Even smaller releases like the remake of Wizardry literally allow you to keep a screen on the original as you play. These are the things that fill me with joy more than family, friends, or any sense of fulfillment from helping the world.

And now, Tetris is getting the Gold Master treatment. Hell yes. For some reason, it’s called “Tetris Forever,” but that miꦦght have more to do with brand saturation of the Tetris name compared to say, Karateka. I’m sure just calling the collection “Tetris” wouldn’t ha𒀰ve moved the needle. Who cares? I don’t! This is what I want. Even if it wasn’t technically announced at Gamescom, Tetris Forever is my game of the show.

A collection of 15 Tetris games that I could probably emulate and a history that’s been extensively covered is going into my game library on day one. Why? Because I trust Digital Eclipse more than I trust my own father.ಌ And, not for nothing, Digital Eclipse has never hit me for touching its stereo when I was four.

Digital Eclipse collections should be the norm. I know I’ve hit this point thirty times on this site, but, more than collecting games, Digital Eclipse gives context for the games. Few other companies work as hard to do this. The Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection by Digital Eclipse didn’t need to include all that art and information, but it did. Even in its smaller remꦕake of Wizardly, Digital Eclipse helps provide context for the his♉tory of the game.

Digital Eclipse releases are more enjoyable because you learn more about it and how it came together. I don’t want to just download a Zip file of old Tetris games. I don’t want to just watch another YouTube series on Alexey Pajitnov. Digital Eclipse gives y🅰ou paperwork and inteꦑrviews and history - and provides the games at each moment along the way. Being able to read documentation on a game and then immediately play it - that’s how video game history should be.

Tetris Forever

And with Tetris, we’re getting the playable history of one of the greatest games ever made. There’s a reason Tetris is my most played Game Boy game on Switch Online. There’s a reason I own Tetris Effect for four different platforms. Partially because I’m a fool. But the first one is because Tetris remains that good. Whether it’s stripped down or filleᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚd with bombs and power-u♌ps, Tetris is fascinating.

But we’ve all lived inside a world in which Tetris has always existed. I feel like it’ll revive the sense of surprise and wonder to explore how the series has changed and the strange avenues it’s gone down. Because we forget that Tetris genuinely blew everyone’s butts of🍌f. Everyone was addict🔜ed to Tetris - even my dad, who was then completely distracted from his stereo.

Stingrays swimming through the air in Tetris Effect Connected

I want that experience again. We have dozens of videos and articles and books about the creation of Tetris, but far less about its evolution over♋ the years. For many people, Tetris history begins in Russia and ends at Game Boy, with the same game just coming out again and again with a new coat of paint. Which isn’t true. I know it won’t be in this collection, but nothing matches the pow🍌er and the glory of Tetris DS. And Tetris Effect might be one of the few games on this planet that leaves me calmer than I started.

But I want to see the weird and the bad, the abnormal and the confusing. We’re getting Hatris back, baby! It’s like Tetris, except 💧you stack hats! I don’t care if the world is burning, I’m going to learn about how the hell that game was born like the Offspring in Alien Romulus. Offspring the monster, not the Crazy Taxi band.

Tetris Forever

I wi♒sh Digital Eclipse’s Gold Master series got more attention. People call it the Criterion Collection for games, but it feels wider than that. Each Gold Master entry is more like a Criterion Collection of a director’s entire library. Or a Criterion Collection that features early cuts of the movie and moꦡst of the TV.

I know I’m in the bag for this company, I know I’ve talked endlessly about this company, but every time it announces something like Tetris Forever, the cold block of suffering and hate that is my heart melts. Plus, it’ll be pretty cool to play Tet𒐪ris the way it looked on a Russian computer in 1985. I’m really looking 🎐forward to that part, too.
