I never really cared for the Grey Knights before playing 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Warhammer 40,00🐓0: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters. I still don’t really care about them, actually, but I’ve since seen a different side to the Exterminatus-loving elite. That’s partially through Andy Serkis’ voice performance, and partially through spending hours with Grey Knight characters over the course of the game. But mostly, it’s because ཧI watched every single one of my virtual Terminators die horrible deaths.
Daemonhunters gives you the classic XCOM quandary. After levelling up your super soldier, carefully picking their buffs and abilities, selecting the right wargear for the mission at hand, and of course giving them a name that either befits their status or reflects one of your friends, they will immediately be maimed by the first Plague Marine to point its Blight Launcher in their direction✤. I stopped ไnaming characters after my daughter for precisely this reason.
Despite the pang of sadness I feel when Corporal Childhood Friend kicks the bucket, I wouldn’t feel so gutted if the stakes weren’t so high and the gameplay so engaging. If Daemonhunters was an unfair matchup, where dozens of Great Unclean Ones filled your screen with their ichor and bile, it would be no fun at all. Things are difficult to start with, do🌜n’t get me wrong, but once you&rsquo𓃲;ve upgraded your squad and started bringing heavier firepower, the missions fall beneath your power armoured feet.
Andy Serkis is still unimpressed, but on console his hologrammed face feel✃s like it’s being beamed directly into your skull, like you’re actually explaining your losses to Grand Master Vardan K🧸ai himself. It’s, quite frankly, terrifying.
Whether you’re a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dreadnought aficionado like me, who loves penetrating enemy lines with might and crushing pustuled cult🉐ists beneath your enormous feet, or prefer a more measured approach by sticking to the shadows and usin🍬g your sniper rifle to take out key targets, Daemonhunters has it all. Except, the con🐻sole port doesn’t have either of those characters, as they’re currently locked behind the PC-only Duty Eter🍒nal DLC. Other than that, though, the port is admirable.
Daemonhunters, much like XCOM, is hard to translate to a controller. This is a game designed for keyboard and mouse, and things are a little finicky to manage. Picking exactly which square your Space Marine will stand on, ensuring you’re in an appropriate level of cover, perfectly positioning your Purifier to cleanse as many Chaos worshippers as possible in excruciating flame – these are all quite easy tasks with a mouse, but much more ꦯdifficult with a controller. Daemonhunters doesn’t innovate in this area, but it is capable of pulling off its turn-based warfare on the sticks. I had a couple of misclicks early on, but it doesn’t take long to get the hang of things.
Other than that, there’s not much to say. The game runs well on my Xbox Series X, as is a bare minimum really, but I’m quietly pleased. Conversations ꦇwith your advisors look great, and, while you can’t navigate the battlefield with quite the same ease as on PC, it’s not enough to put you off.
The biggest improvement that the port makes is performance. While my PC can handle the wrath of the Imperium, my gaming laptop cannot. Nor can my 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Steam Deck. I don’t know if it’s poor optimisation or there are Nurglings in the code, but something makes weaker devices chug. That’s why I’m impressed by the Xbox performance, and why making the move to consoles is a great idea for the game. Now, players without expensive computers can experience what is probably the most fun, tactical Warhammer game I’ve played in years. Like Helldivers 2, it’s very reasonably priced, and well worth throwing your cash at if you’re even a moderate fan of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:40K universe. Who knows, you could even develop a soft spot for the Greyജ Knights like m𒊎e.
