Take some time to think about your current set of gear and what you're going to need. For PvP, you want to focus on armor, a decent helmet, combat and health stims, and a solid weapon. Also, pick a weapon that works for you, fill it with attachments, and insure it so you don't lose it. Although if you plan on doing this, remember to act quickly when you see a target as it only takes a few seconds for the evac animation to kick in and ferry them to safety. Plus, if someone gets onboard the dropship, you can’t follow them on otherwise the game will just evacuate you too.

Go Slow

It may seem counterintuitive as your first instinct upon dropping in is to start running around like it's a Warzone or some other Battle Royale match, but doing this just gets you dead. Taking a slower approach when your feet touch terra firma will keep you alive and your pockets filled with loot that can be dumped in the evac ship.

Being stealthy is overall encouraged in general because the game makes a big deal about how sound can work. Gunshots travel far, footsteps can echo, and often trampling through the brush will aggro packs of aliens that will happily tear you apart. When it comes to combat there is a hidden mechanic that not many are aware of and it’s how the game deals with damage and bullet penetration. Not taking advantage of this and instead focusing on raw damage numbers will lead to ꦡsome pretty frustrating and confusing encounters during firefights as the game never really tells you that this feature is there.

How it works is, if the person you’re attacking has the same color of armor as your weapon, it deals 100 percent of the damage your gun is firing. If the weapon you’re using is of a higher tier, you deal additional damage as your bullets are better than your target's armor. However, if your weapon is of a lower-tier than someone's armor, say a Common to an Exotic, you won’t deal the full damage of your weapon. How much of a dip in damage is annoyingly unknown, but it’s enough of a difference to make some guns seem absolutely useless against certain grades of armor.
