Miraak did not give you a chance to explore the last time you came to visit; this is your first chance to do so.

As is befitting of the Daeꦺdric Prince that most resembles a Lovecraftian horror, Apocrypha is a confusing and alien place. You will have 𒈔to defeat his tentacled servants and navigate twisting corridors supported by towers of forgotten tomes.

Starting The Gardener Of Men

A man gazes down at a forbidden tome presented on a pedestal.

You are quite literally dragged into this quest when you read Black Book: Epistolary Acumen at the conclusion of The Path of Knowledge. Greeted by Hermaeus Mora himself, you are told that the knowledge you seek lies within Apocrypha. You will have to find it yourself.

You are able to leave Apocrypha by reading the Black Book. Use it when you are lost or overwhelmed.

You begin this quest in Chapter One, alone on a platform.

Chapter One

A man approaches a book in a strange, alien realm

This is a relatively simple introduction to the confusing reality within Apocrypha. Here, you will need to interact with the Scrye in front of you. It will create a moving bridge. Walk through the bridge to find a distant book on a pedestal. It is beyond your reach, forcing you to wait for the bridge to align with a second platform with a Scrye.

There are two new hazards iℱntroduced in this chapter.

The dark ichor between platforms is highly dangerous and will quickly kill you.

Standing close to the edge of platforms will have tentacles reach out and whip you.

Interact with the Scrye for a second bridge that will take you to Chapter Two.

Chapter Two

A man fights monsters in a bizarre, alien reality.

This chapter begins with you in a narrow tunnel. Walk to the end to activate another Scrye. As the tunnel unfurls, you will have to fight a lurker and two seekers. While you would have fought lurkers in The Fate of the Skaal and Cleansing The Stones, the seekers may be an unfamiliar enemy.

Seekers are crafty foes that will frequently turn invisible and conjure doppelgängers. They are able to drain your Health, Stamina, and Magicka as well.

Activate a new Scrye to open the gate to Chapter Three.

Chapter Three

A man walks into a reality where towers of books stretch up into an alien, green sky

This chapter is as linear as Apocrypha gets. You will need to fight your way through seekers and lurkers while navigating a tunnel similar to the one from Chapter One. You will find the final book, Chapter Four, and the end.

Chapter Four

A man approaches a book held aloft in a strange contraption while towers of books stretch into the sky behind him.

You will reach the knowledge you seek here. The chapter consists solely of a large platform that has a book at the end. Interacting with it will start a conversation with Hermaeus Mora. Though unpleasant, the Daedric Prince provides you with the second word for Bend Will. Before he leaves, he tells you to have the Skaal give their secrets to him.

With your business concluded, you have the opportunity to choose between three abilities.

Dragonborn Frost

The Frost Breath shout will immobilize enemies.

Dragonborn Flame

A Fire Wyrm will emerge from the corpses of those killed by Flame Breath

Dragonborn Force

Unrelenting Force deals more damage and may disintegrate enemies.

To return to Tamriel, interact with the book. You will be in Nchardak with Neloth. As you exit, you will be attacked by the dragon Krosulhah. Defeat it to continue.

Completing The Gardener Of Men

A man reads a tome of forbidden knowledge while standing in a snowy village.

Return to Skaal Village to complete the quest. With no other recourse, you will need to ask Storn to give Hermaeus Mora the secrets he seeks. The Shaman agrees, willing to put Miraak's defeat above the secrets long hidden from the Daedric Prince.

Against Frea's protests, Storn reads the Black Book. Hermaeus Mora appears and kills Storn, carving the final word of Bend Will on his body. With this, the quest ends, and the next one, At the Summit of Apocrypha starts.
