Caliber is the premium currency in The First Desc🃏endant - during the open beta you can get access to it via missions.

Ajax really shines when you take the time to learn how his stat༺s and skills interact, and set up his loadout to make him an i🧸mplacable knight on the battlefield.

Ajax's Skills

Ajax, the Liberated Guardian's stat graph in The First Descendant

Ajax's gameplay centers around his passive skill, Event Horizon. Using active skills makes all of Ajax's skills more powerful for as long as he remains in combat, so you'll want to use skills often, especially🦋 early in each f𝄹ight. Here's how it works.

Each time you use a skill as Ajax, you fill one segment of your Void Energy bar, located below your Mana bar. The more Void Energy you have, the faster you🐽r skill cooldowns become, as follows:

Void Energy Segments

Cooldown Bonus

1

5% faster

2

10% faster

3

20% faster

Keep an eye on yo💫ur Mana - it's eas🐽y to run out with faster cooldowns if you don't take the time to seek out pickups mid-battle.

Ajax can have up to three segments of Void Energy. If you use a skill while your Void Energy is full, it becomes an Enhanced Skill, gaining an additional effect, and your Void Energy returns to zero. You can build up and use Void Energy this way as many times as necessary throughout combat, but you lose all Void Energy when the fight ends.

Active Skills

Skill

When Cast With Full Void Energy

Orbit Barrier

  • Creates a horizontal barrier in front of Ajax. Allies can shoot through it, but enemies can't.
  • Enemies that shoot the barrier take damage proportional to their own attack.
  • The barrier's DEF and HP are proportional to those of Ajax.
  • The barrier deals more reflection damage to enemies, based on Ajax's DEF and Skill Power.

Void Walk

  • Ajax leaps forward, dealing area damage when he lands and inflicting Stun on enemies hit.
  • Damage is calculated based on Skill Power.
  • Greatly extends the stun duration.
  • Ajax recovers part of his Shield upon landing.

Expulsion

  • Damages and knocks back nearby enemies.
  • Damage is calculated based on Skill Power.
  • Increases the radius and damage of the attack.

Hyper Cube

  • Creates a barrier dome centered on Ajax. Allies can shoot through it, but enemies can't.
  • The barrier's DEF and HP are proportional to those of Ajax.
  • Unlike Orbit Barrier, Hyper Cube does not reflect damage.
  • Allies within the barrier increase their Firearm ATK and Explosive ATK.

Choosing A Loadout For Ajax

a closeup of Ajax in The First Descendant

When playing as Ajax, you should always try to have Orbit Barrier or Hyper Cube active to soak up enemy fire. Both of these skills rely of DEF and HP; luckily, Ajax boasts some of the highest totals for these stats in the entire game. Equip him with Modules that provide a percentage-based bonus to these stats, especially DEF, and you're already halfway to a great build.

Don't worry too much about Ajax's unimpress𓆉ive Shield. It's nice to have, but he relies on his enormous HP total to 🥃stay alive in combat.

The other main thing to consider for Ajax is maximizing his Skill Power as much as possible. Usually this means equipping the most powerful Reactor you can find and building around it. That's where Aj🐼ax's other secret advantage comes in; flexibility.

Ajax doesn't need to use a particular weapon type to be effective; in fact, he can excel with just about any gun you put in his hands. Use that to your advantage by choosing your Reactor first and selecting t🐷he correct weapon to trigger its Skill Power bonus. Not only will this ensure 𒁏that you get the most out of Ajax's powers, but it also gives you a great way to learn the game's different weapons for when you move on to a different Descendant.

Combat Strategy For Ajax

Ajax rushes to a resource box during a battle in The First Descendant

Whether you're playing alone or with a team, your strategy as Ajax will mostly be the same, with variations depending on the terrain and the enemies you're facing. Start each encounter by placing an Orbit Barrier facing wherever the enemies are coming from. A few will probably take themselves out from the reflection damage alone. Use Void Walk and/or Expulsion to clear any that reach melee range, and use your weapons to handle the rest. It won't take long to fill your Void Energy meter.

With your Void Energy full, deploy a new barrier. Orbit Barrier is ✃best if the enemy is coming from one direction and has lots of ranged attacks, while Hyper Cube is better against oncoming melee waves or foes attacking from multiple angles.

Hyper Cube is also mꦚuch more effetive as part of a team, since everyone inside gets a damage bonus.

Top up your Mana whenever you can, and keepღ repeating the process to ensure that you're always fighting 🌌from behind enhanced barriers.
