Korean developers Nexon, who are no strangers to the free-to-play market, are already facing what seems like an uphill battle when it comes to player goodwill. The game's reviews are currently "" on Steam, with only a 46% recommendation rate and there's clear discontent within a large contingent of the game's fledgling community.

The Great Paint Debacle

One of the biggest complaints relates to The First Decendant's paints, cosmetics which allow players to change the color of a skin. They first came under fire during the game's beta test, with players initially unhappy that different colors were locked behind a gacha system.

Listening to player feedback, Nexon returned to the drawing board and reworked things. However, they seem even more disappointing now, as . This means that if you have multiple Descendants you want to share the same color palette, you have to fork out real-world money every time you wish to use it. The same goes for Twit♛ch Drops, which also have a one-time use.

This alone has prompted players to call the practices "disgusting," "predatory," and "the worst MTX I've seen in a long while." One Warframe player pointed out that, in Digital Extreme's game, they can buy a paint palette "for a dollar" that can be used on all frames and weapons and can be reused at no extra cost. They then jokingly stated that in The First Descendant, they have "to pay $5 to reuse blue."

Others have complained that the game's paints look "," adding to the frustration.

"A Bit Of A Scam"

A quick look at The First Descendant's paints a telling picture, with multiple negative posts about many of the game's monetization practices.

Warframe was repeatedly mentioned in different Reddit threads, with one user claiming that The First Descendant is up to for equivalent items in both games. To double mod capacity in Warframe, players will likely fork out around $1.5; in The First Descendant, it's closer to $30.

The game's battle pass has also been called "" Typically, but not always, if players purchase a premium battle pass, they can earn enough virtual currency to purchase the next pass. In The First Descendant, players can earn some currency; however, it stops short of being enough to purchase the next pass, meaning players will have to fork out more cash ahead of the next season.

The multitude of complaints continues, with players feeling like the drop rates for specific items have been falsified, forcing them to fork out money to purchase them instead. One💞 player claims to have completed a mission "" for an item with a drop rate of 20% — they never got it. Ano꧅ther claimed to have spent chasing an item with the same 20% drop rate, only never to receive it.

I downloaded the game myself to check things 🥀out and was instantly taken aback by just how many different ways The Last Descendant will try to t🍸ake your money.
