Several developers responsible for T🦂he Last of Us, God of War, Destiny, and Call of Duty: Modern Warframe are teaming up to form a new studio – . Receiving a $100 million investment, the team will be working on a third-person, action-adventure game.
Several big names are involved with the studio, including the former head of PlayStation's Visual Arts Group, Michael Mumbauer, as CEO and Tina Kowalewski of Sony Santa Monica as Chief Strategy Officer. All told, members of the team have worked on a variety of top-selling games, including Uncharted 4, Destiny, and even Fortnite.
As is the case with most new studios, That's No Moon is keeping the details about its first project tightly under wraps. We know it'll be a single-player, action-adventure game – but that's about where it ends. The group is funded by Smilegate, and the partnership hopes to "inspire empathy and deeper personal connections with players around the world." The team is currently on a hiring spree, with the goal of adding an additional 90 new hires by the end of the year.
"As a new studio, we are building a collaborative and inclusive culture, where people of all backgrounds, ideologies, orientations, and ไidentities are treated equitably and with respect," Mumbauer said. "We’re team-focused and want That’s No Moon to be not just a place where everyone can feel empowered to pioneer bold ideas and do great work, but to live healthy and balanced lives."
That's No Moon might eventually step outside the gaming industry, as Mumbauer mentions the team believes "that the stories we tell should not be limited to any given medium." Mumbauer goes on to say that characters build in That's No Moon's video games could eventually extend into "TV, film, or beyond."
That's No Moon has not provided a title or release date for its upcoming project.
