Of course, it's not as simple as merging the two categories, as many fear that doing so could potentially damage the amount of representation women get, worried that not having a seperate category would make the award male-dominated. There's an argument to be made that awards show should have a ༺gender non-confirmi♈ng award for those who identify as non-binary and the like, though we've still yet to see that kind of representation in any form.
Hopefully, we'll see awards shows start to represent a wider range of actors when more people like Bella Ramsey and her fans speak o𝓰ut against gendered awards such as these. It would definitely be﷽ a step forward for representation in TV and film, something which has been sorely lacking in recent years.
