This article contains spoilers⛦ for The Last Of Us season two and The 🔯Last Of Us Part 2.
Summary
- HBO has already removed Joel from the opening credits of The Last Of Us.
- Episode three's show open closes on Ellie's silhouette standing alone.
- It's unclear if that's how it will stay or if someone will take Joel's place alongside Ellie.
They really did it. Staying faithful to the source material, Joel was kil🍃led by Abby in episode two of The Last O🐈f Us season two last week. ✤The opening scenes of episode three really hammered that home, and not just by showing how Ellie and Tommy ha𓂃ndled Joel's passing in the immediate moments after it happened.
The episode begins with Tommy tending to Joelꦉ's body, telling him to send Sarah his love as he fights back tears. We're then shown Ellie coming around for the first time after she fell unconscious next to Joel's body. A flashback to the moment Joel dies is shown, and Ellie nee🌳ds to be sedated as she can't stop screaming.

Viewers are then given a chance to gather themselves during the opening credits after a tough couple of m꧋inut𒈔es, or that's what they're led to believe. The credits for the adaptation have been the same since the start of season one. However, since Joel is now gone, the show's creators have implemented a subtle but heartbreaking change for episode three onwards.
The credits show Cordyceps growing and creeping, with it closing on a shot of the fungus growing into Joel and Ellie's silhouettes standing side by side. However, now that Joel's dead, his silhouette has been removed, leaving Ellie to stand alone. It's a minor detail, but one that would have hit like a punch to the gut if y🦩ou've already seen episode three.
Joel's Gone, Get Used To It
He's Not Even In The Show Open Anymore
As you can see, it hasn't moved Ellie to the middle to fill the space. There's just a big empty space where Joel was previously stood, which is fitting considering how Ellie feels in the show right now, not to mention the viewers. Especially those of you who haven't played 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Last Of Us Part 2 who got blindsided by the shock🍨ing death in episode two.
A second warnin🤪g as the rest of this article discusses minor spoilers for The Last Of Us Part 2, so potentially spoilers for the remainder of season two.
It will be interesting to see if the credits remain that🐼 way from here on in. Ellie will continue to develop a close relationship with Dina if the show remains faithful to the game, but Dina never becomes as prominent a character as Joel. Abby is the closest we get to a second main character following Joel💝's death in the sequel, but obviously she and Ellie are mortal enemies rather than characters who would be walking side by side.
The Last Of Us fans 🔥are a little concerned about what lies ahead for Ellie and Dinaꦦ after a dꦇeclaration from the latter that she's "just curious" when discussing her sexuality. It's unlikely their long-term relationship will be scrapped entirely, and maybe Dina will simply take longer to come around to Ellie being her soulmate.
