A brand-new game has been revealed at 's Summer , titled The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which finally features Zelda as a playable character.
It's been a busy couple of weeks in the gaming world thanks to , 's State of Play, and 's Summer presentation, but it looks like it's finally being capped off with Nintendo's annual Summer Direct. Even though we knew that nothing was going to be announced for the Switch 2, .
One of the biggest surprises of the whole Direct , which is the first game in the series to feature Zelda as the primary playable character. Surprisingly, we won't have too long to wait to play it either, as it's going to be launching on September 26 later this year.
Zelda Is Finally Getting Her Own Game
The trailer for Echoes of Wisdom revealed that it'll be using the same graphics style as the Link's Awakening remake, which suggests that it's from the same developer. This is a brand-new game, though, and notably features Zelda as the primary playable character for the first time in the series.
We also got to see a good look at what Zelda will be capable of in Echoes of Wisdom, as she's armed with a staff that allows her to make echoes of objects that can be placed around the environment. It certainly seems like she's going to have a different playstyle to Link, who usually just focuses on sword combat.
Echoes of Wisdom is great and all, but I can't believe we went through another Direct without seeing Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
Although it's not been that long since the last big Zelda game, , released, it has been a while since we saw anything else from the series that wasn't related to . Not counting the remake of Link's Awakening in 2019, the last non-BOTW thing we saw from the Zelda series was 2015's Tri-Force Heroes.
With that and how long it was between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom in mind, it doesn't come as too much of a surprise to see a brand-new Zelda game revealed during today's Nintendo Direct.
