Updated June 6, 2023, by Alexis Renae Campbell: The entries for Ganon's Giant Horse and Zelda's White Horse are now changed to reflect in-game locations when players are specifically playing on consoles without a previous Breath of the Wild save.
Finding Horses
There is a countless number of horses in Hyrule, and any can be yours through dedication 🅺and know-how.
From the beginning, you can find Wild Horses grazing in wide, open areas in most regions. They are the most prominent type of horse, and while they can be found in just about any area large enough, there are a few good locations to search for companions in the early game:
- Hyrule Field - Windvane Meadow
- Hyrule Field - Whistling Hill
- Hyrule Field - Romani Plains
You can tame any wild horse by sneaking up on them, jumping on with A, and calming them by mashing L. So long as you have the stamina to tame them, they will calm down, and you can take the calm horse to any stable to register them.
You can have up to ten horses with max Pony Points.
There are also rideable creatures like skeletal horses, deer, ram, and other such animals. However, you cannot register them at a stable to keep (though the reaction of the stable master may꧂ be worth the trip).
After registering a horse, you may wish to strengthen your bonds with your friend. Increasing your bond will make your horse listen to you more, making it easier to 🐼ride across the vast lands of Hyr🎃ule.
To increase bonds with a horse, you can either:
- Soothe them - Press L while riding when your horse begins to act up.
- Feed them - Hold or drop a carrot/apple/similar treat in front of the horse.
Unique Horses
There are also unique horses to discover and board at your local stable. Each of these will require special circumstances to be met or locations to be uncovered, and there are no others like them.
These horses also boast some of the highest stats, making them highly valuable for your adventure.

Upgrading And Reviving Horses - Malanya, The Horse God
Malanya returns in Tears of the Kingdom to help protect and revive your beloved equine companions.
For the price of specific and complicated meals, you can increase the stats of your horse, like increased strength and speed. And for one , you can revive a deceased horse regardless of how that horse passed (yes, even if it's your fault, but you will be judged by TheGame🔥r staff; beware!).
To find Malanya, you'll need to travel to the Deep Akkala region in the far northeastern corner of the Hyrule map. She rests behind the East Akkala Stable on Bloodleaf Lake.
However, after you find her, you'll have to lure her out with an Endura Carrot. You can get this carrot by:
- Earning them through Pony Points.
- Growing them in Hateno Village's garden.
- Finding them at the peak of Satori Mountain.
- Finding one at the Cherry Blossom Altar beside Yamiyo Shrine.
- Earning one from the Kakariko Village's General Store owner's sidequest.
With Malanya found and your horses cozily boarded and c🔜ared for, you'll be able to take your companions on your adventur𓆉e across Hyrule from beginning to end.
