Fantasy fans are familiar with the one ring to rule them all. The journeys of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins are staples🐼 of the high fantasy genre of entertainment. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are grand🐭 adventures that highlight the ultimate struggle of good versus evil. But what if you encapsulated that struggle in a single individual?
The writer of The Lord of the RIngs, J.R.R. Tolkien, did just that with the character of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:creepy and odd character of Gollum, a twisted creature tormented by the pull of the Ring of Power. Now he has his own game, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and while it 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:did not fare well critically, it still offers a small sampling of Middle-Earth for lo🍸ngtime fans.
7 Shagrat
"Who's Shagrat?" you might ask. Well, Shagrat was an Orc Commander whose capture of Frodo his claim to fame in Tolkien's novel. As one of the Mordor Uruk-hai, Shagrat was in the thick of Sauron's operations.
During The Lord of the Rings storyline, his home and post is at the Cirith Ungol Tower. It is this tower where the Orcs under Shagrat's command bring Frodo to search him after the Hobbit is poisoned by Shelob.
While the characters in Gollum are often seen from the main protagonist's view and labeled as such (Cruel She-Elf, Frail Man, etc.), we can obviously glean who some of the major players are such as Thranduil and Gandalf in this story. We can also pinpoint Shagrat in the early moments of the game as the Mountains of Cirith Ungol are where his story begins.
6 Shelob
Speaking of the wicked spider queen, Shelob makes an appearance in Gollum in a big bad way. In The Return of the King storyline, Shelob threatens Frodo and Sam's journey to Mordor.
Gollum, keenly aware of the gargantuan arachnid's presence attempts to lead the Hobbits into her lair so that she will kill them and the ring will be ripe for Gollum's taking.
Gollum is seen using Shelob to his advantage in the prequel setting of this game luring both Orcs and, potentially, a backstabbing fellow Mordor inmate by the alias of Grashneg into ༺a trap for Shelob to dine on.
5 Thranduil
The Woodland Elven, Thranduil, is holding Gollum as a prisoner at the start of the game. Thranduil was instrumental in combating the forces of Sauron in tꩵhe novel storyline.
It's his son, Legolas, who ultimately joins the fellowship to protect the ring bearer (Frodo) on his initial journey to Mordor.
Here, Thranduil is seen as cautious over the potential threat Gollum possesses toward the free folk of Middle-Earth. It's Gollum's knowledge of the ring and its whereabouts as well as his potential usage as a spy for the Dark Lord that Thranduil is mostly concerned about.
4 Mirkwood
Mi🐓rkwood, the Woodland Realm, is the setting for nearly half of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The game depicts it as a lush forested realm with bright greens and vibrant vegetation.
Much of the realm is covered in dark forests, however, that have fallen prey to Sauron's dark presence. However, the Elven King Thranduil, attempts to hold the line and repel Sauron's territorial expansion.
The game concludes with Orcs raiding Mirkwood which leads to Gollum's opportunistic escape from the realm - an event referenced in the novels. Middle-Earth is brilliantly realized as a dense fantasy world, and Mirkwood is a small, but notable piece of it.
3 ꦅ T💎he Mouth Of Sauron
Perhaps, Sauron's most faithful servant, The Mouth of Sauron goes only by this moniker. Having once hailed from Númenór, no one knows his true identity any longer - not that it really matters.
He literally acts in the very role his name implies. He speaks for Sauron and often issꦕues commands.
In the Peter Jackson-directed films, he was depicted as a hideous creature with metallic armor covering his face except his ghoulish mouth. Gollum presents the character a bit differently as a bald figure in ornate Mordor-inspired elite garb and piercing monstrous eyes, and while he doesn't have much screen time in the game, he does have an effect on Gollum's journey.
2 Bilbo Baggins 🐻 🃏
How could we have a game about Gollum just prior to the events of The Fellowship of the Ring and not have Bilbo's name at least grace the lips of the game's titular character? After all, Gollum feels very much scorned by the Hobbit believing him to have stolen his precious ring.
Bilbo is mentioned in the narrative, though he doesn't make an appearance. However, during one of the missions in which Gollum is sneaking around the Candle Man's office, he can locate a picture of Bilbo Baggins.
It's a crude sketch that Gollum even remarks doesn't look very much like the Hobbit. Still, even discussing the character is a major reference to one of the saga's biggest heroes.
1 Gandalf
The Grey Wizard makes a remarkable entrance at the start of the game with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:an intricate artistic design. He then appears in narration dialogue and briefly during an in-game🌊 stealth mission.
While the game really doesn't outright state his name given that we see even the subtitles from Gollum's perspective labeling him as simply "Wizard," there's no mistaking his identity.
Gandalf is instrumental in combating the forces of Sauron in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy of novels. He eventually emerges as a White Wizard with even greater power and maintains the leadership necessary to bring an army to the aid of Helm's Deep.
