Yesterday, we got the surprising announcement that Amazon's attempt to get an MMO based on The Lord of the Rings o𒁏ff the ground is back on the cards. This follows the last LOTR MMO it was working on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:getting cꦺancelle♉d several years into development, following some 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:messy behind-the-scenes legal drama. While this is good news for anyone looking for another fantasy MMO to get stuck into, LOTR fans aren't convinced that the game will do the world of Middle-earth justice. For various reasons, fans are sceptical that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Amazon Game Studios can make The Lord of the Rings work in MMO form. Whether it's fears over how the source material is handled or concerns over the game's performance given 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:New World's less-than-stellar launch, Amazon certainly has a lot of doubters to prove wrong, and not just from the Tolkien rights holders this time. "No faith in Amazon. Period," agrees BabuDakhal, clearly not feeling the hype with this announcement.

Over on Twitter, there's a pinch more optimism, but still plenty of fa💛ns doubting that Amazon can pull off an MMO s🉐et in Middle-earth that's worth the hassle. One fan even refers to it as "New World 2: Tolkien Edition."

That's not to say that all fans are so pessimistic. There are some who are looking forward to exploring Middle-earth in an MMO that's a bit more modeꦫrn user friendly than The Lord of the Rings Online. This MMO is actually still live right now, having launched all the way back in 2007. However, from just looking at the visuals, it's definitely showing its age a bit, so it's not surprising that Amazon wants to put something out there for new players.

Those who didn't enjoy Amazon's The Rings of Power also won't have to write off the new MMO just yet, as the announcement made it clear that the game is "unrelated" to the show and its time period. Instead, it will focus on The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's aဣlso only in the early stages of production, so we're likely years away from being able to play it our♌selves. It doesn't even have a name yet, so that gives the devs plenty of time to decide what the game should look like.
