Spoiler warning for The Owl House: Thanks To Them
I am not surprised in the slightest that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Owl House’s Hunter is a wolf boy. He radiates that kind of energy, and is right to believe that wolves are some of the coolest creatures mother nature has ever conjured up. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Thanks To Them sees him find a Three Wolf Moon shirt with a pack of the fellas howling at the moon and immediately fall in love with it, eager to mirror their mixture of curiosity and loyalty as he grows ever closer to his f🍬ound family.
Watching his 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:redemption arc unfold has been nothing short of♍ saccharine, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t still busy fighting back demons. Belos is hot on his heels, having snuck into the human realm alongside Luz and company at the end of last season. Now he’s back, and spends much of the first special possessing Hunter from the shadows, until he’s finally ready to strike. The showdown that unfolds upon his reveal is nothing short of spectacular, and has the show firing on all cylinders.
The sequence in questi💜on was animated by Tom Barkel, who also helmed the beloved Lumity kiss from the previous season that had the fandom losing their fruity little minds.
While the fight scene itself doesn’t stretch beyond a minute,❀ you can immediately tell that something in the air has changed, and that someone special was b🌄rought in to bring this specific encounter to life because it plays such a crucial role in the narrative. A spiteful monologue towards the camera makes it ever so clear that Belos is ready to kill, eager to hunt down all remaining witches, even if it means starting with the teenagers before him.
A few months ago we might have seen Amity, Willow, Gus, and Vee run for the hills, but here they stand their ground and prepare for a battle that could be their end. Amity is quick to bat away his disgustingly stretchy limbs as Gus and Willow spring into action alongside her. Vee and Camila almost seem shocked at how willing their companions are to throw their lives away if it means sav𝓡ing Hunter and defeat𝐆ing a Tyrant who has long sought to destroy them.
Gus and Amity burst forward in an explosion of purple and blue light, taunting the powerful emperor with confident insults that disorientate his still emergent form. Belos acts like they are little more than ignorant flies to swat, but his weaknesses are more than apparent as Willow pulls one of his arms into submission with a single hand as Vee marches forward and prepares to face her biggest fear. The shapeshifter fled from The Boiling Isles because of Belos, so facing him head-on to save Hunter and banish him for good is not only a power move, but a crucial pie🅰ce of development for a character fans have come to love.
It’s beautifully presented too, with Vee spouting forth a fluorescent string of light that does everything it can to break Hunter free of the spell that binds him. Belos struggles, but it isn’t enough as he retaliates, Amity and Willow appearing to rescue Vee from imminent death with moments to spare. Her expression after the fact is priceless, but she did her best, and that’s what matters. Animation returns to its usual quality after this, but I still can’t keep my mind off the dynamism, fluidity, and personality this combat encounter exudes that really brought The Owl House to another level. It might be coming to an end, but to see it go out at its brightest is an absolute privilege. All of my gay witchling babies are kicking ass and taking names, but Belos is only at a fraction of his power, so who knows what aw🌜aits in the future.
In my review I compared it to a feature film from Disney, and it really does feel like that at points. Televised animation often has to work with limited budgets and harsh deadlines, so bringing in guest animators to help specific moments shine and stick in the memory like this is so special. Spencer Wan - who you might know for his and his studio's work on Hades, Hyper Light Breaker, and Enchanting Grom Fright - is another fiercely talented artist who has left a lasting mark on the show, and with any luck will return in the coming specials. There is so much talent on this show, and Thanks To Them was filled with moments that give them a chance to shine in spite of the show’s truncated fate. Here’s hoping for many more like it.
