That Unreal 5 Engine demo? It’s technically playable, a🌳lthough we 𒁏won’t actually be able to play it thanks to coronavirus.
Today, Epic announced their new Unreal Engine 5, the latest and greatest iteration of the game-making engine that powers everything from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fortnite to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Borderlands 3. To showcase the new technology, Epic created a technology demo called 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Lumen in the Land of Nanite and played it using a PlayStation 5.
It’s not a real game, but more like the playable part of a game that’s designed to just show off what this new game engine can do. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:And it can do a lot.
But can you actually play it? Well, yes and no. In an interview with , Epic boss Tim Sweeney and Epic CTO Kim Liberi explained that while the demo exis💖ts, it's not actually a game that's in development.
“It is playing 100% in real-time on the [PlayStation 5] and you do have full control over the character,” said Sweeney, with Liberi adding: “In fact, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:if GDC happened we would have let people play thro𒁃ugh the thing.”
There’s honestly not a whole lot to play as it’s mostly just the player walking through some scripted events with the light sources moving in differen🔯t directions. But it does look like a totally sweet game and it’s more than certain other next-gen console makers have shown in terms of gameplay.
Sadly, it’s not a game. This is just a dem🦋o that shows all t♋he cool new tricks that Unreal 5 can do when paired with the PlayStation 5. But Tim Sweeney thinks that this combination is so powerful that it might create totally new genres of games.
"The technologies that we’re showing today [are] going to enable entirely new types of games that we can’t even envision yet. And that’s the exciting part. We can’t even imagine yet what this is going to enable🦩 the industry to do."
The PlayStation 5 is due out sometime this holiday season. Nobody knows what it looks like, but we’ll hopefully find out when there’s a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:big reveal event in July.
