168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Sims 4: For Rent is an expansion pack that offers more than meets the eye. Its primary focus is introducing the new residential rental lot type, which allows players to completely customise rental lots, from a room to rent to a block of apartme﷽nts or a row of townhouses, and everything in between.
At a glance, the pack is very focused on building and the new ability to own those rental properties and become a landlord. However, there is much more to it than just that. We spoke to producer Rebecca Doyle an♑d game designer Jessica Croft about what goes into each expansion and how For Rent is huge for storytelling and continued diversity in The Sims 4.

Don’t Jud⭕ge Games By Footage Their Creators Didn’t Want You To See
Negative reactions to footage leaked in the Ins𒀰omniac ransomware attack shows that many players don't understand how games are made.
The first thing you’ll notice about For Rent is the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:beautiful world of Tomarang, which was inspired by Southeast Asia. “There's an opportunity to really deliver some diversity that we haven't been able to in recent packs,” Croft explains about For Rent. “Also, Southeast Asia is near and dear to a lot of the team who are Southeast Asian. So for us, it was a lot about being able to deliver on experiences that we have experienced firsthand and just the pride in that.”
The team matched the locations to the pack, and for this expansion, the focus was family and, specifically, different living situations. “Family is very important in Southeast Asian cultures,” Croft tells us, “And that's somewhere where we felt like we would be able to tell this story of that variety of people living with their families.”
The new rental system is also touted as far more than a building tool. It’s also a storytelling device. You can use it to allow multiple generations of families to be on one lot, all with their own space and expenses. You can have one-room rentals up to small developments of differing-sized houses. When Sims are put onto one lot, switching con🉐trol is faster than usual, and the Sims will also mingle more thanks to 🌃shared spaces. This helps create far more of a community feel in the game, something which has been lacking until now.

A large part of the community feel is another Southeast Asian staple, the sharing of huge amounts of food. “Bahn Cuon and Banh Xeo are two dishes that I grew up with,” Croft tells us. “Banh Xeo, that’s the thing you should order when you go to a restaurant. It’s one of my favourite dishes, and it was so exciting to see that realised in T🎐he Sims.”
This is just one o💛f several recipes added to the game with this expansion, making the recipe list more multicultural than ever. However, there are so many more unique things to Southeast Asian culture that make up this pack.
“I think the food's really so great,” confirms Doyle. “But also the clothing and the architecture that we're able to pull in, like the nice pastels that are able to go on all the walls, that's just something that you don't necessarily see in America as much, but it's really beautiful [and] I can't wait to see the buildings that people create.”
A huge part of the buildings is the furniture that accompanies them to make everything feel cohesive. “I feel like The Sims is at its best when there's something in it that you recognise from your life,” says Croft. “The build buy in this pack, we added some plastic chairs, the red one, and if you've ever been around an Asian neighbourhood or marketplace, you probably sat in those chairs, I almost guarantee.”

The New Sims 4 Expansion Lets Y🧸ou꧑ Be A Landlord, Which Is Too Evil Even For Me
I like to torment my Sims as m🤡uch as the next guy, but damn.
While the lack of community feel in some aspects of the game has been a complaint for a while, adding rental units felt like an odd way to tackle this, especially when the game already has an apartment system. However, Doyle tells us they feel this was the right choice, “The apartments that we have are very specific, like you can only have it the way it is, whereas what we really wanted to hit with this pack i🎐s being able to tell all the different stories.
“Whether I'm renting out a room in my house, or I have two townhomes next to each other, or there's - we always call it like the granny flat - in the back. And so I think that one of the things that was really interesting about this was specifically focused on that variety and being able to tell all of those different stories.”
Croft emphasises that allowing players to build these multi-unit dwellings makes the game more relatable, “Most people live in multi-unit dwellings. I certainly do, and this makes the pack that much more relatable. I think that's why it's important. And I just want to emphasise it's not just apartments. It's all kinds of multi-unit dwellings, whether it be townhouses or duplexes. Even trailer parks.”
One of the other continued pieces of criticism about The Sims DLC is that “packs are getting smaller.” There’s absolutely no evidence for this, and it’s generally a misunderstanding about how development works, with Doyle explaining, “A really hard part about game development is trying to help people understand what goes into it. The thing that I'd say about this pack is there's a lot of time that our engineering team did to make those buildable apartments. There's a lot under the surface to make that system so flexible and make it so that people can do so much with it.”
“To bring it down to layman's terms, I can promise you every single EP has relatively the same amount of resources dedicated to it,” adds Croft. “I think the hard work we have to do as a team is to determine how those resources would be spent. Certain things are very expensive in terms of the amount of resources it takes to actually build them and sometimes that's not immediately obvious. At a high level, I promise you every pack counts about the same amount of resources put into it.”
As with all DLC for The Sims 4, For Rent will hold a different level of value depending on how you play the game. Since I spend a lot of time building this pack is something I will continue to utilise for a long while. However, there are also a lot of ways to use it for storytelling, and for reflecting more diverse cultures in both decor and dress.
