The Sims 4: For Rent introduces the new lot challenge mold. This makes mಞold grow on lots marked with the challenge and spread throughout the affected homes. It starts off as a small nasty patch but quick⛎ly spreads and becomes increasingly harmful.

If left untreated, mold can become toxic to Sims, leading to an incredibly gruesome new death. If you want to keep your Sims alive on a lot with mold then you'll need to know how to identify and treat mold.

What Makes Mold Grow?

Mold is actually fairly slow-growing. If you have a Sim who is hygienic and keeps things clean, then it will take quite a while for any mold to appear. This is because the growth of mold is related to the cleanliness of your lot. Mold will grow faster if:

• Sinks, showers, counters, and toilets are unclean
• There are puddles on the floor
• Items are broken
• Trash is overflowing

You will first get an Allergenic Mold Pile, which is a patch of green circles of different shades along with a slight white hue. These patches of mold will make your Sim feel queasy and gross but aren't fatal. However, if they are left untreated, then you'll get a Toxic Mold Pile. This will be more luminous in colour and have mushrooms sticking out of it.

If a Sim is exposed to Toxic Mold for too long, then it is fatal.

Don't worry though, if you don't want the reaper to call there are three different ways to clean up a mold invasion.

How To Get Rid Of Mold On Your Lot

To get rid of mold, you need to tackle it one patch at a time. The longer you leave it, the more it spreads and the more d🦹ifficult it is to shift.

There are three different ways to clean mold and all have different effects. Whichever one you choose, you'll need to click on the mold pile and then choose an option from the menu.

How To Clean A Mold Pile

When mold first appears, the best option is to clean it yourself. You can select the mold pile and then choose 'clean allergenic mold pile'. Your Sim will then change into a fetching protective outfit and clean it away.

The sooner this is done, the less likely the mold will spread. Since it is also quick, easy, and costs nothing this is the recommended way to get rid of mold. However, there are other options.

How To Set Fire To Mold Piles

If your Sim is more chaotic and really hates cleaning, there is another (sort of) free option. Set fire to it. All you need to do is select the 'Destroy Mold Pile With Fire' option from the menu and your Sim will do the rest.

The larger a mold pile is, the longer it takes to burn, and the more chance there is for the fire to spread. The ideal scenario is to have a sprinkler system installed before you begin, but sometimes you forget that such a thing exists in ♛the game and, well, the conseq💮uences are unpredictable...

You cannot extinguish the fire until the mold pile has burned.

While this method of mold removal is free to start, the damage can be huge,🙈 especially if the fire brigade decides to dance and then wander off instead of extinguishing the fire.

How To Use The Mold-B-Gone Bomb

If the mold has spread, the best way to eradicate it is to select 'Deploy Mold-B-Gone Bomb' This option will cost you Simoleons, but it takes just seconds and will remove all traces of mold in your entire lot, even toxic mold.

If your Sim has money to spare, this is the best way to deal with a mold problem, due to the speed and how thorough it is.

How To Get Rid Of Mold Infection

If your Sim still has a green cloud around them, or a fierce debuff, then you need to head to the shower. A Sim who is infected with mold spores will see the 'Scrub The Spores Off!' option.

Selecting this will remove the infection and associated negative effects. However, you'll need to clean up first as this option cannot be selected if there are any mold piles nearby.

Can Your Sim Die From Mold?

Toxic mold can kill your Sim.

Death by mold isn't instant, so you don't need to panic, but it does need to be dealt with. A Sim needs to be exposed to a toxic mold pile over a period of time before they die. Howevಞer, if you choose to ignore the cleaning, they will eventuall🍎y meet a grisly death.
