In this guide, we are going to go over every work event that you can find in the Growing Together expansion. Remember, if you don't have this content, you will not see these work-related events. This will include burnout, rivals, and layoffs. First, let's take a look at random job performance checks, which can appear in the base game.

Job Performance Checks

While your Sim is at work, you may notice a pop-up appear, giving you some options to choose from based on a work situation.

Unfortunately, these are completely random. There is no order to the checks appearing, and the answer each time will be random as well. For example, you may get the same pop-up two separate times, with each one having a different 'correct' answer.

Overall, don't worry about answering these wrong. While they can lower or raise your job performance, it's not enough to make a noticeable difference.

Work Rivals

Now, we are to new content from Getting Together. Work Rivals are essentially someone who stands in the way of your path to success within your career.

Rivals are chosen at random; there is nothing that you can do to prevent a rivalry from occurring. While at work, you will get a notification that a workplace rival has appeared. The rival will displayed within your career panel menu, right above th📖e promotional tasks that you need to com🅠plete.

How To Deal With Your Rival

Thankfully, there are some things you can do in order to deal with your workplace rival. Below, you can see the two options you can choose from while working. These are found in the work menu that is accessed by clicking on your Sim's icon while they are working.

Action

Outcome

Sabotage Work Rival

Lower Work Performance

Increase Fun Need

Chance to end Rivalry

Befriend Work Rival

Lower Work Performance

Increase Social Need

Chance to end Rivalry

These options are not guaranteed; there is a chance they will not end the rivalry. Try again the next day if this happens.

If you manage to befriend your Work Rival while outside of work, then the rivalry will disappear as well. This can be done by visiting their home, inviting them out (if they accept the invitation), and pretty much any way that you would normally make friends.

Burnout

Burnout happens when your Sim works hard doing the same task for too long. As such, this ♏can also appear from other tasks, such as spending a long time to build up a skill.

Work Burnout will happen if you 'Work Hard' too many times in a row without taking it easy or taking a day off. If you are having job Burnout, this will displayed in your career panel, showing a giant message stating 'Experiencing Burnout'.

With Burnout comes negative Moodlets that can lower your work performance and unhappiness. When Burnout is starting, you will have the 'Mental Fog' Moodlet, which can eventually develop into the 'Brain Block' Moodlet.

How To Remove Burnout

Brain Block essentially means that your Sim cannot use their brain properly, which makes them more tense. To get rid of burnout, try taking a day off from work. If you need to work, you can also take it easy there.

Additionally, we suggest doing some new tasks that your Sim doesn't usually do. For example, if your Sim isn't artistic, try painting! You could also have your🎉 Sim do a relaxing activity, such as visiting a spa.

Don't leave a Burnout unattended! This can greatly lower your Sim's work performance, and make them tense/angry/uncomfortable.

Layoffs

Lastly, we have Layoffs. These are not as common as the other two events, but they can still happen.

Instead of being immediately laid off, you will get a 'Looming Layoff' notification, mentioning that your Sim is at risk of being laid off. Once this happens, you will get the 'Looming Layoff' Moodlet, which makes Sims more tense.

It's important to note that Looming Layoffs are completely random. There is nothing that you can do to preventও this from appearing, but you can take measures to avoid being laid off.

How To Prevent Being Laid Off

First and foremost, it's important to not let the tenseness from the Looming Layoff Moodlet control your Sim. Try doing more relaxing activ🍎ities whil𓂃e not at work, such as doing a hobby that your Sim enjoys.

While at work, we suggest working hard or, at the very least, avoiding taking it easy. Additionally, it's highly recommended that you do your daily job tasks and strive to meet the promotional tasks.

These methods can increase your chances of not getting laid off but sometimes, your Sim will be laid off regardless of what you do. In this case, you will now haꦜve an unemployed Sim.

You can get a new job, but you won't be able to immediately apply for the job that just laid you off.
