There is a caveat though: if you turn down the payment, many NPCs will insist to give you something for y✱our troubles, which can turn out to be worth more than the initial offering, l🗹ike gemstones or weapons. Of course, like in any world, there are people who are perfectly fine with not paying you at all and won't insist if you refuse the reward.
But, as many fans tend to point out, there's really no real way to stay poor in The Witcher 3 if you de🅷vote a little bit of your time to clearing out smuggler's caches around Skellige. But if you really want to take another coin from the poor old lady with a haunted🌳 house just to prove a point, knock yourself out. It's probably part of the witcher code or something.
