Traversing Freya's Garden

Freya's Garden Witcher 3

Follow Yenn into Freya's Garden after the dialogue where she will bring them to the center of the garden under a giant tree. Once there, Geralt discovers that Craven made his offering to the goddess. Follow Craven's blood trail around the garden's front inner perimeter until he reache😼s a locked door.

At this point, the objective will be to "Explore the further parts of the herbarium", so Geralt will need to find an alternative route. To the right of the door is another door, marred by claw marks and a low set wall. The scratch-marked door is locked as well, so scale the wall. Once on this upper landing, you'll find an area with a building to the left. Note this building for later if you haven't run the 'In Wolf's Clothing' quest yet.

Pass the building and drop to a lower level at the back of the garden then pass through the gate to the left. This leads to another area of the herbarium with smaller inaccessible buildings. Continue through until you reach a mote-like waterway and bridge. Cross the bridge and climb the ladder built into the wall on the left. Once above, you'll see a wooden mechanism you'll need to work out in order to progress to the next area.

Operating The Gate Mechanism

Once you take a few steps from the top of the ladder, a cut-scene will trigger where Geralt explains 🗹the me♒chanics of it all. This includes:

  • Double lever mechanism's function
  • One lever selects one of three gates in the mote
  • The other operates the selected gate

Three wooden pegs between the levers indicate which gate is selected. Yo🌠u'll want to select the middle gate then use the left lever to open it. Note here that the selection lever only works when all gates are closed, so if you've been shuffling between levers trying to figure out how it all works, go b🧸ack to the left lever to make sure all the gates are closed.

Finding Craven's Body

Now simply swim through the gate. It's a short waterway with a ledge for Geralt to hoist himself out on at the end to the right. Then, proceed up the ladder built into the wall directly ahead. This brings you to the last section of the Herbarium. Here, you'll find a shack with a rather gruesome scene⛎ which upon examination will trigger a cuts💜cene with the werewolf Morkvarg if you haven't freed him from his curse yet.

Back in the garden, head straight through the stone arch and pass the overgrown water fountain. Next to a dead tree, you'll find the ruins of a well at the foot of the stone steps. You'll discover that Craven ju♛mped down it rather than facing Morkvarg by using Geralt's witcher senses.

Jump in after him then follow his trail of✅ blood through the cave. Once you locate his corpse, Geralt can examine it and trigger a cut-scene with Yenn. But this quest isn't over.

Don't Stop Just Yet

However, if you explore a little further in the cave before interacting with Craven's body, you will find another corpse with a key on it. The key unlocks a♔ nearby exit which turns out to be the scratch-marred door you discovered earlier. This makes for easy acܫcess should you want to return to the area for any reason instead of running through the entire herbarium again.

Once back up top with Craven's corpse, Yennefer will insist on performing necromancy to get the i🤡nformation they need. Through Craven's reanimated corpse, they learn that his true name is Skall, and he blames Ciri for the elders' curse upon him. Aft𝕴er some painful prodding by Yenn, Skall begins to recount meeting Ciri thus beginning the next chapter in Ciri's story and effectively ending the quest.
