Don't hold your breath just yet, there are no official announcements, rumors, or even breadcrumbs from The Witcher developer CD Projekt RED about an upcoming The Witcher 4. However, it would be hard for the studio to ignore the allure of such a successful franchise; while they're not keen on making any new Witcher game anytime soon (to make room for Cyberpunk 2077), they're not closing doors on anything.
What this means is that there is still a possibility for a fourth Witcher game (albeit a faint one). After all, the game world is brimming with fascinating lore begging to be explored. One of her monikers is the "Lady of Space and Time," this makes Ciri capable of traversing and manipulating two of reality's dimensions, namely space and time; essentially making her the goddess of her own reality. With that said, Ciri's horizons look more exciting than Geralt's as far as The Witcher 4 goes.
9 ♋ WHY GERALT: HE'S MORE VERSATILE
Ciri's powers might be more flashy and infinitesimally stronger,❀ but Geralt's is way more varied and fits many situations or specialties. By that, we mean Geralt can either be a jack-of-all-trades and ma🗹ster of something. Want him to be a mage? Play a Sign-focused build; a swordsman? Ignore everything else and just hack away and improve his fighting skills.
With Ciri, it's hard to imagine something that versatile. She's no blank slate like Geralt as far as combat and gameplay capabilities go. Depending on how the developers build gameplay around Ciri, she ⛦could well bec🌠ome a one-trick pony whose only go-to abilities are space and time manipulation because why use a sword if you can be an omnipotent goddess?
8 WH🀅Y CIRI: SHE HAS MANY UNEXPLORED STORIES
Ciri has been gone from Geralt's w☂orld for a while before she returned with the Wild Hunt hot on her trails. That means she has a lot of affairs that the third game has yet to feature or address. Apparently, Ciri also traveled to other worlds or dimensions in order to hide from the Wild Hunt.
We don't know about you but that sounds like it would be a compelling story and video game material. Ciri's adventures through time and space in different alien and bizarre worlds (which could still be made to be within dark fantasy tropes) are something generally💃 unexplored in fantasy video games that it could well be CD Projekt RED's next big project.
7 WHY GERALT: HE'S MORE CONFLICTED ⛦ ♋
Geralt has been around for nearly a century and even then, he still finds it hard to come to terms with a life he didn't choose. Being a witcher makes him just as bad as the monsters he's hunting in the eyes of humans. Moreover, his life is pretty much on a dead end where♐ he st🧔ill has to keep walking; he can have no family but still has to do some witchering to survive.
This makes Geralt's character arguably deeper compared to Ciri who's a lot less💮 conflicted compared to Geralt. She might have some bigger responsibilities to the world but Geralt's life can be a lot more dramatic and tragic, making it more emotional or even more relatable, especially if you've read the books and delved deeper into his thoughts.

For Geralt, the story has already been told and there might be nowhere else to go beyond some witcher contracts. For all we know, he might be heading dead straight into succeeding Vesemir's role-- an old 𒊎witcher past his prime with nothing left to do in life but look after his aꦬdopted witcher family or school.
Ciri, on the other hand, is still pretty much fresh out of her teenage years come The Witcher 3 (she's just 21). This means she has a better potential for adventures. Given her young age, she also still has much to learn and most likely hasn't fully realized the extent of her power🏅s yet. All in all, there's still plܫenty of miles left for Ciri's journey.
5 🌸 WHY GERALT: HE HAS A BETTER HISTORY
Being old is not without its perks, especially if you get to look like you're only 30 or 40 despite being nearly a hundred-years-old. For one, Geralt already has plenty of commendableꦗ experience which could make him a more appealing character as witchers🔯 go.
Additionally, Geralt will also have the added benefits of friends from all walks of life. We can never get enough of Dandelion, Zoltan, Lambert, ♕Eskel, Triss, or even Yennefer-- they're all familiar faces and would likely be more involved in Geralt's adventures since they have better-established chemistry with him.
4 W🦂HY CIRI: THEY'D HAVE TO MAKE THE HAPPY ENDING CANON
The Witcher 3 fundamentally only had three effective endings. It's worth noting that Ciri never underwent the Trial of the Grasses, the mutation experiment which turns witchers into what they are. For all her extradimensional powers, Ciri is still a human. Geralt, on the other hand, is a veteran witcher-- someone who's more fitting of the game's title. Heck, even Lambert might be a more fitting witcher protagonist than Ciri.
2 🥀 WHY CIRI: A CHANGE IN THE WITCHER FORMULA
As stated earlier, Ciri's time and space jumping shenanigans could well pave the way for a twist in The Witcher's open-world formula. With all said and done, she's still half-a-witcher who can jump into other worlds and deal with the magical threats in that place. That's a whole new 🎉level of witchering for anyone.
Also, such a design choice for gameplay and story could change the structure of Witcher games. The developers can even make the game world varied and alien enough, making it a unique setting not seen in fantasy video games since Planescape: Torment or The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. For many fans of the franchise, Geralt is the franchise. It's his feats and exploits that made the game what they are.
