Dandelion is the famous poet whose path would often entwine with the Witcher Geralt's throughout Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. Dandelion, or Jaskier as he is known in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Witcher Netflix series, is largely accredited with coining the White Wolf's renowned fame through his many ballads alluding to their adventures together - including some which may not have even happened.
It's no secret that one of The Continent's most acclaimed, and most humble of bards has a masterful way with words. Originally, thanks to Sapkowski's own whit and charm, penned for the character Dandelion, then animated for CD Projekt Red's continuation of Geralt's story through the video game series. Most recently, actor/musician, Joey Batey has lent his talent and lute playing skills to bring the character to life as Jaskier in the hit Netflix series. With so much content to sift through, we've picked a few of our favorite quotes from all three formats to share with you.
11 "Not lying, just embellishing. And there's a difference."
If there is a difference between embellishing a story and a completely fabricated one, the bard would be the one to know and work it to his complete and utter advantage. Dandelion expresses this sentiment after Geralt calls him out for lying in one of the bards newly coined epics during one of their journeys together throughout Sapkowski's second series of short stories, The Sword of Destiny.
10 "Respect doesn't make history."
The first season of The Witcher created a similar exchange between Geralt and the bard. After all, the show is an adaptation of Sapkowksi's original stories. Jaskier begins coining his first hit ballad of the show, just after having been released by Filavandrel and praising the Elf's honor.
Though the tale he spins recounts the events in a different light. Geralt shortly interrupts the tune, expressing his distaste for the mistelling and asking the bard "where's your newfound respect?" to which Jaskier replies, "Respect doesn't make history."
9 "Like father, like daughter." 𝓀
Jaskier comments on the similarities between Geralt and his child surprise upon meeting Ciri just outside of Cintra in season 2 upon being greeted with the same tight lips and cold shoulder he's used to receiving upon meeting Geralt.
This quote also draws parallels to the books and Dandelions later impression of Ciri in CDPR's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Witcher 3, where he defends his failing to safeguard her and insisting she can defend herself by telling Geralt, "Have you seen how that girl fights? The apple didn't fall far from the tree, let me tell you."
8 "Despair is like a stormy sky. Sooner or later the sun must drive away the clouds.♑"
Dandelion draws from his well of poetic prose to comfort Duchess Anna Henrietta during one of her darkest hours in The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion, while she mourns the loss of her sister, Syanna. This one may have missed its mark as family tragedy isn't exactly something that can be cleared away with a passing wind or fleeting fancy.
It is a beautiful sentiment regardless, the kind we have come toꦍ expect of the bard. But it also betrays one of his subtle but core character flaws, in that he is unable to relate first hand to the complexities of familial ties.
7 "Oh, I never really know. That's why I'm so good at it."
The full quote is a bit of dialogue between Jaskier and Cahir in the second season. As they, along with Yennefer and a group of refugees, try to escape off the docks in Oxenfurt, Jaskier volunteers to cause a distraction, claiming he'll do what he does best. When Cahir asks what that is, Jaskier responds with this off-handed quote. It is a self reference to the bards' ability to think on his toes and spin most situations he finds himself in to his advantage, or finagle out of them entirely.
6 "Sooner or later they'll come for everyone. Anyone they deem the 'other.'"
Jaskier and Yennefer are reunited in season 2 when Yennefer finds him helping Elves escape Oxenfurt under the alias "The Sandpiper". After playing catch up via a witty back and forth of chiding remarks, Jaskier further explains his position of wanting to help the elves.
The full quote reads "I was at the great oak Bleobheris when it was raided. The Seat of Friendship the druids called it. Where every free thinker was welcome no matter their race, their creed. They come for the elves, Yennefer. They'll come for the dwarves. And sooner or later, they'll come for everyone. Anyone that they deem the 'other'."
5 𒁏 "You bet your bloated bicep she would."
Shortly after Geralt and Jaskier have their second season reunion, when the Witcher springs Jaskier from his jail cell, the bard recounts crossing paths with Yennefer and the two piece together Yennefer's motives and likely objective. When Geralt tries to discount the idea that Yennefer would be willing to cross him to regain her powers Jaskier counters him by saying, "What? Sacrifice your child surprise to get her magic back? You bet your bloated bicep she would."
The bard's comparison between Geralt's physique and Yennefer's blatantly transparent motives reminds everyone how easily Jaskier can make light of a weighty situation while also highlighting the candid nature of the sorceress to make sensitive decisions seemingly without regard for the consequences.
4 "You don't get to play damsel in distress. That's my job."
We all know Jaskier has a flare for theatrics a⛄nd a tendency for drama, while Yennefer is known throughout canon for being a strong, independent, wash your own back sort of character. So this quote from Jaski😼er in the second season is a fun nod to their character dynamics while teasing a break in the fourth wall, connecting with fans of the books and games alike.
3 "You usually just let꧑ strangers rub chamomile onto your lovely bottom?" 🦹
Geralt's bloated biceps aren't the only quality Jaskier has deigned to comment on. In fact, thanks to an episode in season 1 we know the bard has gotten up close and personal with some of the Witcher's more personal attributes that typically only sorceresses have been permitted to touch.
And when the cantankerous Witcher tries to shirk this close bond of friendship with the bard, Jaskier not so lightly reminds him what friends are for. That's rubbing chamomile into a sore backside, apparently.
2 "Love is like a pear. A pear is sweet and has a distinct shape. Try to describe the shape oꦯf a pear.&qu🍰ot;
A personal favorite quote throughout the entire book ser🎶ies is this line from ജDandelion in Time of Contempt, where he attempts to find words to define what love is. While even the well-versed poet comes up short, he draws this comparison between love and the shape of a pear, which perfectly embodies that undefinable feeling.
