The first Witcher game is the clear weak link of the franchise. In some respect๊s it's not even worth revisiting if you're a fan of the other two due to its frustrating controls and antiquated graphics that couldn't even make the cut of most games released in 2007.

But somewhere in there were some great characters, a thrilling story, and the groundwork required for the greatness that developers CD Projekt Red would come to achieve. Today we're going to be revisiting the first game to tak💝e a look at all the Easter Eggs that you might've missed while you were busy saving for the 100th time.

10 𓆏 ♈"Freeeeeedom!"

The Witcher world gives CD Projekt Red a lot of opportunity to sneak in a few Braveheart references. Both are set in medieval environments and take place during epic wars and battles. So i♕t wouldn't be hard to have an infantry soldier scream Mel Gibson's iconic line, "freeeedom!"

Heck, you could just give a random NPC blue and white face paint and you could call it a day. But no, CD Projekt Red went to where no other developer has been before and equipped squirrels in the sewers with the iconic "freeeedom" yell. We're suddenly quite thankful 𒁃that we don't live in their world.

9 Alfred Nobel And The Invention Of Dynamit🌌e

alfred_nobel_prize

Who would've guessed that you'd be receiving a history lesson from a video game? Well, it's The Witcher, probably oneﷺ💜 of the most mature and forward thinking game series of all time, so we shouldn't be too shocked. Your fellow witcher pal Eskel talks about a gnome, Alfred Nabel, who invented dynamite and says he didn't intend for it to be used in warfare.

Funny, because Alfred Nobel created dynamite in the non-video game world and also felt guilty about it being used for violence. He felt so guilty, in-fact, that he used the money he made from 🎐dynamite to fund the Nobel prize.

8 🍒 My Precious ൲

gollum_lotr_witcher

In case you didn't get the memo, CD Projekt Red really likes Lord of The Rings. Coincidentally Henry Cavill is also a nerd of the legendary fantasy series. While the first Witcher game doesn't have as💫 many references as the second and third game﷽s, it does have one really good one.

During the quest "Finders Keepers" Geralt will ask the con artist why the ring is so precious. And if there's one thing LOTR fans know it's that you never put "ring" and "precious" in the same sentence. We'll never get tired of seeing the LOTR references, so🤪 keep piling them on CD Projekt Red!

7 🔜 Imperial March Whistle

empire_strikes_back

We know, we know. Star Wars references are ubiquitous and cliche. However, the fact that the Witcher has one bears mentioning. This is a list about easter eggs, after all. Some of the NPCs in Witcher whistle the Imperial March.

It's a little thing, certainly, and CD Projekt Red is hardly the first developer to sneak a Star Wars ref♋erence into their title, but the little things do c൩ount.

6 "Am I My Brother's Keeper?" 🧜

bible_verse_witcher

Legendary comedian George Carlin once said "I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older; then it dawned on me - they're cramming for their final exam.𓄧" What does that have to do with our curren🍎t entry you may ask? Not much.

Well. Unless you consider that in chapter II you'll eventually come across an innkeeper. After asking him if he's seen Coleman, his brother, he will respond "Am I my brother's keeper?" — a reference to Genesis 4:9.

5 🦄 ꧋ Monty Python References

monty_python_witcher

At this point Monty Python can be attributed as the single most influential comedy project of all time — people don't call them The Beatles of comedy for nothing. Countless comedians including Sacha Baron Cohen, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, and the creators of South Park and Family Guy talk about how th✨e comedy troupe 🐓influenced their work.

Well CD Projekt Red can enter the fold. In the Witcher you'll find a discussion among lumberjacks about wild flowers and cross-dressing. And poor people in the Temple Quarter will yell "society made me who I am," a reference to Life of Brian.

4 The Viziman Connect༺ion

french_connection_witcher

Unless you're a die hard film buff you likely haven't heard of the 1971 action thriller The French Connection. This isn't even a film that most of our parents would've grown up with, so color us impressed when CD Projekt Red made a reference to it in The Witcher.

As you progress through Chapter III of the game you'll stumble across the🦄 quest "The Viziman Connection." Sure, it isn't the most subtle refeꦡrence, but we think involving a quest where Geralt has to smuggle pounds of illicit substances would be a bit much.

3 ✨ Real Life Boxers Taking On Geralt 🦩

CD Projekt Red has a history of implementing real fighters into their games for Geralt to take on in hand-to-hand combat. For their first game they ended up inserting Polish boxer And🧜rzej Golota (under the alias Andrew Gablodda) as the fistfigh🦩t champion of Chapter III.

2 🧜 H.P. Lovecraf🌳t References

hp_lovecraft_witcher

Whenever you're dealing with fantasy there's no way you're going to get away from the works of ﷺH.P. Lovecraft. The acclaimed author has accumulated cult-like fame through ꩵhis otherworldly stories and creatures such as Cthulhu.

Some of the references in the first Witcher include a statue in Vaska's hut that resembles Cthulhu himself, and the bookseller in the Trade Quarter who sells a book about Dagon, a well known Lovecraft creature. And the Vodyanoi, an intelligent race of fish people that you encounter in The Witcher, are based on creatures that Lovecraft created. Here's hoping that we see Cthulhu in the Witcher 4.

1 🐟 🧸 Ezekiel 25:17

pulp_fiction_witcher

And here we come to our favorite reference in The Witcher, which pays homage to Quentin Tarantino's cult-classic film Pulp Fiction. The Easter Egg comes from a conversation you'll have with Jeremiah Trick, the king of Vizima's underworld and more commonly known as Ramsmeat. He's not officially the king as he works for a man named Mr. Glover, but plans to take it the first opportunity he gets. The reference comes via conversation that Geralt has with the thug, which mimics the exchange between Julian and Brett regarding what Marsellus Wallace looks like. You know the one.
