The Reaper Game is starting anew, as an anime adaptation of The World Ends with You has been announced for 2021.
The World Ends with You was originally released for the Nintendo DS in 2007, where it quickly gained a cult-following who adored its characters, story, and dual-screen battles. The game has since been remade for mobile phones and Nintendo Switch, with additional content and post-game scenarios. It's notably the only Square Enix franchise to be featured in the Kingdom Hearts series outside of Final Fantasy, with the cast of The World Ends with You taking over Traverse Town in Dream Drop Distance.
An anime for The World Ends With You has been teased over the past few weeks and it has now been confirmed during the Anime Expo Lite event that it's coming next year. The World Ends with You: The Animation will receive a worldwide release in 2021. An official is now live and it features English and Japanese text, which has information on the main characters who will appear in the show. A teaser trailer for The World Ends with You: The Animation has b𝓰een released on the official Square Enix YouTube channel.
The Worlds Ends with You: The Animation will feature the Japanese voice actors from the game. It has yet to be confirmed whether the English voice actors will also reprise their roles. To celebrate the announcement of the event, The World Ends with You: Final Remix is half price on the Nintendo eShop.
Fans have been hoping for more The World Ends with You content since the release of the original game, but they have had to settle for ports for over a decade. The release of The World Ends with You: The Animation has given fans hope that we might see the long-awaited sequel to the game, especially if the anime is well-received.
