It’s official: THQ Nordic is remaking Gothic for PC and next-gen consoles.
Last December, THQ Nordic released a playable demo of what they plan to do in a Gothic remake. This was remar♔kable firstly because nobody has released a playable demo for anything in almost two decades,𒉰 and secondly because the game hadn't even been confirmed for development. Instead, THQ Nordic used the playable demo--called --to gauge interest in the new game.
Two months later and THQ has all the data they need. Gothic is being remade.
Since Gothic Playable Teaser last December, over 180,000 players have downloaded it. Theꦬ teaser wasn't particularly long (just 2 hours of gameplay), and at the end of it there was a survey to complete. Of the 43,000 responses, 94.8% of them were in favor of remaking the game based on the demo.
The survey got a little more in-depth than that, also asking for demographics and whether or not you'd played a Gothic game before, but overall, THQ Nordic got a decent estimate for how many people would buy the remake and ⭕it wa♉s enough to greenlight production.
“We are up for the challenge to develop a full Gothic remake which will stay as faithfully as possible to the original experience and transport the atmospheric world of Gothic into a high-quality look and carefully modernizing certain gameplay mechanics,” said▨ THQ Nordic business and product development director Reinhard Pollice in a prepared statement.
Now THQ Nordic will go about expanding their Barcelona, Spain office to produce a brand new Gothic game. The survey respondents asked for the game to be grittier and even less colorful than the demo, so expect even more brown for the remade Gothic. Also, expect it for next-gen consoles (those being the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation 5 and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Xbox Series X) as well as PC.
What you should not expect is a 2020 release. THQ Nordic made it that a AAA title takes more than a few months 𒐪to develop and release. Even 2021 might be optimistic, so we’ll tentatively say late 2021 so that a delay into 2022 doesn’t seem so bad.
