Cult classic Gothic might be getting a rem🐲ake, so long as the results of a 2-hour𒐪 playable demo are positive.
This is a new one. Rather than just making a full game and then seeing how well it does, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:THQ Nordic’s latest experiment is to release a 2-hour playable demo and see what the fan reaction is. If it’s well-received, then maybe they’ll devote the resources to remaking Gothic in full.
For those of you too young to remember, Gothic was a classic action-RPG for PC back in 2001. It never quite reached the same level of success as Diablo, but it had many of the same themes. What set Gothic apart was its unique control scheme--you could play Gothic entirely with one hand, but it used a setup that was completely differ😼ent from any previous gaming conventions. There was no click and drag using your mouse, and everything was controlled via keyboard.
It was polarizing, to say the least, but it had its adherents. And Gothic was successful enougꦰh for developeဣr Piranha Bytes to create several sequels.
Flash forward to today and Piranha Bytes is no longer an independent studio. They’re now a wholly-owned subsidiary of THQ Nordic after getting bought out in May of this year. However, THQ Nordic is still giving Piranha Bytes their due by releasing a teaser of a planned remake of the original Gothic for anyone who alr🧜eady owns a Piranha Bytes game.
Called "Gothic Playable Teaser,” the game is just a 2-hour preview of what a Gothic remake might look like. It’s being made by THQ Nordic's Barcelona studio, but they’re providing it free to anyone who owns any of Piranha Bytes’ previous games, including any of the Gothic or Risen series as well as ELEX.
There is no way to purchase or download the Gothic teaser, so the only way to gain access is to purchase one of Piranha Byt🔜es’ old games.
So why just a 2-hour preview? “We wanted to do an unusual approach and give this into the hands of players early,” writes THQ Nordic. At the end of the 2-hour demo, players are given a survey that will help THQ decide whether or not it’s worth their money to invest in completing the remake. If the response is positive, we’ll see a remade Gothic.
But don’t expect it soon. THQ Nordic said it would “take quite some time” to remake the full game and that they’d need to expand their studio to get the job done. But if this is interesting, you can pick up the entire Gothic collection for as little as .
