Byleth is the newest Smash fighter, and it seems There's a major issue when it comes to Smash fighters in the Fire Emblem series, and that's the fact that they're almost always a main character. Fire Emblem prไotagonists are 🅠completely interchangeable blank slates meant for players to step into. Playing a character in Smash, however, means taking on that personality.
Take Banjo Kazooie, for example. He's a bear with a b🌃ird on his back, comes from a beloved franchise with colorful characters that talk in adorable grunts and people thought he'd never get in. The game he hails from was a♏ huge influence on the gaming industry as a whole, so his inclusion in Smash makes sense. Byleth is another blue haired swordsman.
If they really wanted a Fire Emblem representative, Anna the Merchant would be a much better choice. As a recurring traveling merchant throughout the whole series💝, her love of money and quirky personality is immediately recognizable after playing just two of the entries. More often than not she appears as either DLC or a secret character, and it could be argued she's one of the two mascots of the series. She's apparently one of many identical sisters who look and act exactly the same. There's a lot of leeway in making her a smash fighter, or having her ultimate be summoning her sisters and robbing the opp🦂onent blind. Also, she has red hair and a great aesthetic, which would make her feel unique to play as, no matter what her moveset ended up being.
Or choose Tiki. in the Fire Emblem series. This makes sense, as she's lived for thousands of years. She's been featured in Fire Emblem: Warriors and Fire Emblem: Heroes as well as many of the main entries and is listed as a "Manakete," a race that can turn into a dragon. As the last of her dragon clan, she would have been a far better choice given her small size and twin-fighting style- having a base form and a dragon form would be fantastic to play as. Tiki even has her own amiibo, which gives a special moveset in Fire Emblem: Warriors. The moveset is there for the picking.
