Updated on April 22, 2023, by Branden Lizardi: The Daemons aren't the only chaotic kids on the block; a new faction has entered the battlefield. The recently released Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs DLC introduces a whole new gang of lords, legendaries, and units all centered around Chaos. To ensure that all of our content stays fresh, accurate, and relevant, we're going through and updating any guides we think might need it.
The Daemons of Chaos Playstyle
The Daemons of Chaos are an amalgamation of the four Daemonic factions: Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, and Slaanesh. The unique units it possesses are unaligned basic troops, such as Chaos Furies and Chaos Warhounds.
The faction provides unequaled variety in gameplay, as you can choose to pledge your victories to any of the Chaos Powers. Alternatively, you could go for a more holistic option with Chaos Undivided. You can tailor your playstyle to whichever god you align most with or mix and match to achieve strategic perf💜ection.
Taking elements from each god makes for an extremely powerful composition, as they have clearly defined strengths and weaknesses. An ideal world sees you reꦗcruiting Tzeentch missile units behind a Khorne/Nurgle front line, backed up with high-damage Slaaneshi units and various Greater Daemons. The Daemons of Chaos faction allows you to live this dream.
Battlefield Tips
Battlefield advice can be incredibly varied, as with four faction rosters available, you have a huge selection of units to create your armies. You should focus on which god's roster best suits your playstyle and then shore up the weaknesses with another faction's strengths. With the Warriors of Chaos rework, you can now pick up some great new Infantry and Cavalry options in Chosen and Chaos Knights, which helps cover each god's weaknesses.
Utilize your Lord to provide something your army can't, whether melee prowess or a selection of spell casts.
Ranged Tzeentch units will always be effective, and you can start recruiting some Blue and Pink Horrors of Tzeentch early into the campaign. Your starting army provides a nice front line to defend them, and you should be able to take out a large amount of the foes you will encounter in the early game.
Campaign Tips
As well as considering unit diversity, aligning with a Chaos God has numerous campaign benefits. Nurgle can provide some valuable casualty replenishment rate, and Tzeentch can aid you in diplomatic relations with all factions. A Chaos Undivided route will grant you a generic mix of buffs and should not be neglected in f🅘avor of flashier options.
All gods are viable to align yourself with, but for an easy early game, it has to be either Khorne or Tzeentch. Both of these factions will grant you strong basic troops, and once you unlock Khorne's Bloodletting mechanic, you can begin to snowball.
A front line of Bloodletters of Khorne backed up by Pink Horrors of Tzeentch is easy enough to achieve and will 🌜deal high damage to the various Norscan and Kislevite factions you will primarily be fighting in the early gameܫ.
Focusing on one specific God will yield great late-game rewards tailored to that faction. However, sp🥂read🎶ing your Glory around in the early game is recommended to secure a well-balanced variety of units.
The early game Norscan tribes should not be able to provide much resistance, and the major stumbling block to your campaign will normally come from naval raids. Many factions will hate you from the start and love nothing better than to venture toward your unprotected settlements. Therefore, a defending army can be valuable in preventꦇing you from losing your starting territory to back-door attacks.
Key Units
Despite having access to every Daemonic unit, some do ꦓstand out as particularly strong choices:

All 🦂four Chaos🎀 gods have powerful unit options, and exploiting all of their strengths at once can lead to an unbeatable army composition.
Unique Mechanic: Daemonic Glory
Uniquely, the Daemons of Chaos do not possess a Technology Tree, instead of relying on the Daemonic Glory for 𒉰unit෴ and campaign upgrades. This is the core Daemons of Chaos mechanic, which you must properly understand to play them at maximum effectiveness.
Earning Glory with a specific Chaos God will progress their Glory Bar, unloc🤪king units, passive benﷺefits, and Lord Equipment. Chaos Undivided also has its bar, providing more generic bonuses but allowing for greater flexibility. Glory can be earned from a wide variety of sources, including battle victories, settlement attacks, campaign objectives, and dilemmas.
Once you reach a certain Glory threshold, you can choose to Dedicate yourself to a specific pathway. This will grant you a Diplomatic Relations🥀 increase with that faction and halt all Glory gains with other Chaos Gods. This means you can now unlock the most powerful benefits your respective God has to offer, such as the strongest units, passives, and Equipment.
This is an active choice, and you can fill up the rest of the Glory pathways up to this stage before making your Dedication.
The Chaos Undivided Dedication is the only pathway that will grant you all the units locked by Dedication and is the best pathway to choose if you want full access to the Daemonic🎶 rosters.
Early on, a great strategy is to focus on one or two bars until you have unlocked a specific unit you wish to recruit. Remember that you will need a settlement belonging to that God to recruit from their faction's roster. After this, you can work on gaining Glory with all the gods or𝓰 beeline down one pathway instead to unlock the powerful🅷 enhancements locked behind the Dedication.
Legendary Lord
As well as naming your Daemon Prince before the campaign, your Legendary Lord can be customized like never before. A whole variety of weapons and body parts can be attached t♏o your liking, allowing you to mold your Lord t🔯o fill whatever role your army needs:
- Khorne attachments will strengthen your Lord's melee damage and charge bonuses
- Nurgle attachments will empower your Lord's durability, increasing his health and defenses
- Tzeentch attachments focus primarily on granting your Lord bound spells to use on the battlefield, as well as granting him increased Barrier for survival
- Slaanesh attachments will normally improve your Lord's speed and weapon damage
All four gods can provide powerful enhancements, and no clear best option exists.
Being able to mix and match is part of the fun, and while changing your Lord's stats, these attachments will also alter his visual appearance!
As well as providing clearly defined benefits, attachments can also fall into sets. Equipping a certain number of pieces from the same set will unlock unique bonuses, so be sure to keep an eye out for powerful ones, as they can substantially enhance your Lord's strength. More powerful Equipment and set pieces will be unlocked as you progress along the Daemonic Glory pathways.
The Daemons of Chaos faction grants unparalleled control over how your Lord will play on the battlefield and campaign map. Be sure to experiment to discover your favorite Equipment combinations.
Realm Of Chaos: First Ten Turns
As the Daemons of Chaos campaign has such flexibility, you will likely play multiple, with different playstyles and god choices. The following Ten Turns recommendation is by no means a definitive starting strategy but instead provides a reliable blueprint if you cannot choose which direction to go in.
When playing as the Daemons of Chaos faction on the Realm of Chaos map, you will begin in the Ice Tooth Mountains province, with no starting settlement.

Further Tips:
- Skaeling can be hard to predict and can sometimes choose to run their army away from you, preventing you from isolating and destroying them.
- After claiming your first province, you will normally have to start dealing with aggressive invasions via the sea and incursions by Kostaltyn.
- By default, you should be friendly with the Graeling and Bjornling, protecting you from being attacked in the North East.
- Ensure your army primarily comprises Bloodletters of Khorne and Pink Horrors of Tzeentch, as these will give you a strong platform to expand from.
Immortal Empires: First Ten Turns
On the Immortal Empires map, you will begin with no starting settlement and find yourself in The Noisome Tumour province. You are right at home amidst various Chaos factions, with Dark Elves to your West and Norsca and Chaos to the East. There is a lot of room for expansion and alliances to be created, so you have good freedom to choose🌊 which direction you want to progress into✤.
Due to the flexibility of how you can customize your Daemons of Chaos campaign, this ten turns guide is by no means the best-case scenario. Instead, it will focus on dedicating to one specific god, as Tzeentch provides some great units an🐠d a fun magic-based play💝style

Further Tips:
- Build a Tzeentchian Altar in The Forest of Decay, as this will allow you to recruit Pink Horrors of Tzeentch, your core unit for dominating battles.
- Keep progressing through the smaller Chaos factions, but try to buddy up with any Norsca or big Warriors of Chaos factions you find.
- You are a good scaling faction, so don't be afraid to spend some time consolidating your infrastructure.
- Keep focusing on building up your Tzeentch Glory, and afterward, you can go down the Undivided Pathway for some great bonuses.
- You can, of course, choose to focus on other Chaos Gods, with Nurgle being a nice choice for his affinity with your starting region (remember to build the Cultist Camp in the Forest of Decay if you choose him).
