The Advisor — whose name is never revealed — was at one time an Imperial Wizard. His life changed forever when he found a magical grimoire called the Tome of Fates. The book contains knowledge of the past, present, and possible futures that cannot be found anywhere else in the world of mortals. Upon opening the Tome, the Advisor was cursed.

The information in the Tome of Fates is only revealed at the discretion of the book's creator, the Chaos God Tzeentch. Furthermore, the Advisor is only able to use the Tome in the service of others. Attempts to use the book solely for himself render it unreadable and its secre🌸ts hidd𒊎en.

Worse still, as a relic of Chaos, opening the Tome of Fates bound the Advisor to Tzeentch's will. The Changer of Ways sent one of his most powerful Daemons, Sarthorael the Everwatcher, to assist and observe the Advisor in the form of a bird. The white-feathered raven on hꩲis shoulder is no familiar, but a Greater Daemon in disguis♓e.

In the first two games, the Advisor wanders the Old World, offering his services to kings and queens, warlords and tyrants. While his advice is always sound, thanks to his own wisdom and the knowledge granted by the Tome of Fates, he and Sarthorael secretly conspire to spread disorder wherever they go. The Advisor offers his services to the lord he believes has the most capability to initiate conflict and upend the status quo. Tzeentch doesn't care about conflict for conflict's sake, but rather for the changes it brings to the world.

Players who listen closely to the Advisor will notice that he 🎀is always encouraging his patron to act aggressively in trade, diplomacy, and of course war. His goal is the redrawin๊g of borders, the rise and fall of rulers, and mayhem across the planet.

In some storylines, Sarthorael eventually assumes his true form and kills the Advisor before leading the armies of Tzeentch into battle himself. While a surprise for players, this event cannot be considered canon as the Advisor is alive and well at the beginning of Total War: Warhammer 3, when he res𝔍olves to take his fate into his own hands.

The fall of the Bear-God Ursun in the prologue of the third game gives the Advisor an opportunity to escape his curse. No longer trapped under Sarthorael's watchful gaze, the Advisor believes that with the magical power concentrated in a single drop of Ursun's blood he could break the magical bindings on the Tome of Fates. This would allow him to use the book without restriction, freed from Tzeentch's service and able to plumb its secrets for himself alone.

In need of a loophole so that he can use the Tome of Fates to reach the dying god and collect the blood, the Advisor approaches one of the mightiest lords in the Old World — the Legendary Lord chosen by the player for their campaign. By convincing his newest patron that recovering Ursun's blood would be good for them, he is technically seeking the god "in service to another" and can use the Tome to reveal the path to Ursun's prison. What he will do once he is free — assuming that his gambit pays off — is anyone's guess.
