Hiroki even states how the men he's fighting are those he killed during the village slaughter.

Nonsensical video game logic is something we all accept, allowing us to ignore the things that don't really make much sense. When stopping to think about it for a minute, it's bizarre just how normal this is to us, like considering who is leaving drawings of Yokai in the huts of the village.

To be fair, this only happens during the 'bad' ending of the game, where Hiroki chooses to reject Yomi's gifts. However, it does deliver a complete 180 on his personality, where he becomes the type of person he detests. The alternate ending plays out with Hiroki attacking a village the same way his enemies did, telling his followers to take what they want by force. During the fury ending, he's a broken man; with no romantic or familial relations. After losing everything, he decides to push the same hopelessness on others.

We also see a slither of the training between Hiroki and his Sensei, but aside from these moments, not much else is known.
Chapter six is the next place where Hiroki's childhood is mentioned, where every artifact unveils secrets of his past. Including how he is of nobility, which led to the murder of his parents. These revelations can only be discovered if you manage to find all the chapter's artifacts, so we never see much of Hiroki's childhood for ourselves.
