#RIPFortnite is trending on Twitter as players on all platforms voice their frustrations with the current state of the game. As with all trends on Twitter, the hashtag is being used by people to complain, by others to ask what exactly people are complaining about, and finally by those arguing that꧟ the game is in fact fine, all of which spike the number of hashtag references.
While this is nꩲot the first 💝time that players have complained en masse, this situation stands out in that there is not one single problem sending players into a rallying cry, but several that have built up over months with issues like server stability, skill based matchmaking, and a lack of communication from the developers.
Server stability is no surprise to hear as a complaint, 🃏and the most common criticism of the game are often seen in vods featuring seemingly normal gameplay ruined by server lag, making some players wonder what the point is of putting any effort into winning if the servers make skill all but useless, though this is anecdo♕tal and does not affect all players equally.
Complaints against skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) are also prevalent because since its implementation, some players might feel as though all games are far more serious compared to previous, mor🌠e carefree experiences.
However, this complaint is a diffic🃏ult one to take seriously, because without some manner of SBMM, players would be thrown in a free for all against others who may be far, far higher skilled than they are, and this is a Battle Royale after all. The objective is to win, win, win. SBMM allows for alꦗl players to compete against similar skill levels, and in turn improve by reflecting on their gameplay and tactics.

At that point, Epic described the mech witওhin their overall of allowing players of all skill levels to play together and have their own moment to shine.
Interestingly when one consider❀s the differences between that moment and this one, the philosophies are almost polar opposites by now brining players together of similar skill level. Does this mean that players will always find something to complain about, regardless of how the state of the game is?
That’s an oversimplification to be true, and it shines a light on the real problem here, and that is the lack of communication by Epic Games with the player base, and it is 𝔉a real shame to see that there is so little meaningful information going back and forth compared to how it used to be.
As Fortnite took the world by storm in its first year of launch, Epic was constantly communicating with players and was quick to discuss ideas, make changes to the game as needed, and players responded positivelyꦯ.
While there are certainly issues to fix in Fortnite, going back to consistent communication might be🀅 the best thing Epic could do in the short▨ term.
